Tea and Biscuits Book Discussions: Romances That Make Me Cry

by | Apr 10, 2017 | Tea and Biscuits Discussions | 13 comments

There is something so tangible about reading a romance that makes you tear up…in fact I love these books because I don’t normally cry in books, but some books can really bring out strong emotion in me. I really do love it when you find these books, especially when they are books you aren’t expecting to make you tear up at all and then suddenly your sobbing. Of course, there are some authors I can prepare myself for and others I have no clue until it happens.

Texas Glory by Lorraine Heath

Yeah this was one of my first tear jerker romances and it can still make me sob like crazy!! Now this is a book you don’t expect that at all. Its a couple’s story that start out as a marriage of convenience out west. But man…they go through some hell and fire here folks and yeah I guarantee that you need tissues when reading this one. And those you have read quite a bit of this author or even read this book….KNOW exactly how this author works your emotions so very well.

Her Renegade Rancher by Jennifer Ryan

Jennifer Ryan is one of those authors that makes me cry in just about every one of her books….her characters are fantastic but some of them really struggle with many PTSD type issues and seeing them work through these issues can be tough. But I love the way she spins a story and I can never resist, but I am smart enough to know what to expect when I read her.

Elizabeth’s Wolf by Lora Leigh

Now this is probably one of the few tear jerkers that I have read this author. She writes very “steamy” books with super hot and sexy alpha males and not all of her books are for everyone. But this book, is probably one of the more tamer. But it does get pretty emotional at times, and man the hero in this book is superb. He treats Elizabeth and her daughter Cassie so well but these ladies, they go through some horrible stuff and he is so tender and protective and sweet all being alpha—-yep a winner with this one.

Love’s Sweet Revenge by Rosanne Bittner

*sigh* this author is still one of my all time favorites but I just love the way that she writes a romance and this book was probably the worst tear jerker she has ever written. Yeah I think (toward the ends) I was sobbing for quite some time, because what this family goes through just breaks your heart but you also admire their strength and love for each other.

Lover Eternal by J.R. Ward

I do love and adore this series, but this is the only book that made me cry, I just adore this couple so much and you wouldn’t normally think this would be a tear jerker, but it really is. Especially in the way these two fight for each other and what they are willing to sacrifice. Very heart melting and humbling.

Blue Eyed Devil by Lisa Kleypas

What a book!!! There are many books that I could list under this authors name for a tear jerker, but this one came to my mind first. The first time I read this one, it was a emotional roller coaster with tons of tearful outbursts. But I do LOVE this one so much. But yeah it does deal with some tough issues too.

This Is All I Ask by Lynn Kurland

I read this book when I was just 16 years old, and it still is an emotional read for me and one of the best books this author has written. I really adore this book so much, but it does get pretty intense with the emotional side of it all through the book. Our heroine is pretty suffering from her own form of PTSD (her father beat and whipped her constantly but also tore her down emotionally so she had zero confidence or feeling of self worth at all and feared just about everything) and just her luck she is forced into a marriage with one of the most dangerous reputations around. But our hero as his own struggles including being blind because of trusting in a woman he thought he loved who betrayed him. Yeah they work through their issues but it isn’t easy and can really be an emotional whirlwind at times but man these two are rock solid.

Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Aww….dear sweet formidable Acheron who has been forged in fire—literally. This book is LONG and huge and emotional all the way through, but boy what this hero goes through in his life tests your emotions powerfully. I just wanted to hug him and kiss him.

Walk Through Fire by Kristen Ashley

When I first listened to this book, I will admit that it had me tearing up pretty powerfully. Of course that is no surprise considering that its Kristen Ashley, but boy what this couple goes through is pretty tough at times and definitely had me tearing up quite a bit in this book.

Shadow Fires by Catherine Spangler

This is one of my all time favorites and one of the best sci fi romances ever written—-but on top of that one of the most emotionally intuned romances. This book is spectacular but the ending is what really is the icing on the cake for this book and boy does it make you cry like buckets. What this couple is willing to do for each other is amazing and poignant.

I rarely cry over books. I am not really someone who cries very often. I do remember how moving Blue Eyed Devil was…such a good book. Lover Eternal just about broke my heart as well. I will have to check out the other books that made your list.

Yeah it doesn’t happen very often for me either. Blue Eyed Devil was spectacular, so much feels. And the ending to Lover Eternal just about broke my heart reading it the first time.

I’m actually the opposite. I cry while reading very easily. So easily, in fact, that I usually try to avoid books (romance or otherwise) that will be me cry. Because it’s more than just some tears, I get so sad, and it’s hard for me to let it go. That’s why I love the lighthearted romances so much. But I have gotten weepy in some romances, though. I think I get teary-eyed with Devil in Winter. That scene when St. Vincent wants Evie to stay away from her dad because he’s worried his disease might be contagious (It’s been awhile since I read this so I might have the details wrong). Anyway, Evie refuses and they argue a little. At one time St. Vincent raises his hands in frustration and Evie thinks he’s going to strike her and she flinches away and raises her hands over her head and St. Vincent is shocked of course. And yeah that scene makes me weepy.

I’ll go long bouts where I don’t read a book that makes me cry and then it seems they come in droves and I’m crying frequently. From your list, I cried over the Roseanne Bittner and I cried over a different Ward BDB book. I can’t remember if I cried over that particular Kristen Ashley, but I have cried over at least one of her books. Generally, I cry when I least expect to like for the Kim Jones book last year- can’t remember the name. I don’t mind and usually I end up loving the book.

Also Walk Through Fire–that entire bathroom scene to when she stormed out of the club: I BAWL. I have reread that section so many times and I still have ALL THE FEELS!

What a list! I’m the same with Lorraine Heath, Rosanne Bittner, Jennifer Ryan and Lisa Kleypas. And that Kristen Ashley book? *sob* Her books get to me like that anyway, but man…something about their struggles in that one. Whew. Some other authors that can get me teary-eyed are Nalini Singh, RaeAnne Thayne and Mary Balogh.

I actually don’t like reading books often that make me too emotional. There are some books I’ve read that made me emotional and a few that actually made me cry. I don’t think any of those were romances though. I haven’t read any of the books you listed here, but they do sound good and I can see why these would make you emotional. Some topics are hard to read about.

Don’t you just LOVE a good tear jerker romance? Kaki Warner’s Blood Rose trilogy totally did that to me! I have to admit though that it doesn’t take much for me to tear up. You have a GREAT list here. I’ll need to go through and add a few to my wish list. Thanks for sharing!
