Tea and Biscuits: Best Father In and Out of Fiction

by | Jun 19, 2017 | Tea and Biscuits Discussions | 14 comments

I wanted to talk about Fathers today and why I love them so much and why I love seeing a good father in a romance!!! I know not everyone has a solid loving father, but I was lucky to be born with good parents. My father especially I have been very close to. I am a daddy’s girl for sure, and not ashamed. He has been a solid rock for me. Even though he is far from perfect and has really been struggling the past few years with depression and everything, he still is my rockstar. He has had to give up his own dreams, to be able to provide for his family. He has sacrificed quite a bit for us and I am so grateful I have a father that is like that and love me uncondtionally. I am alike him in so many ways. He is a big readerย  (like me) and he even got me hooked on romance—not adult romance, more christian romance, be he helped open a world of books for me. And he is a very fast reader, so its because of those good genes, that I can read so fast. (can you believe I used to read three books a day?) Now I run a busy blog, so I don’t have that kind of time. But I also have a love of many other things because of him. Long walks, Hiking, Traveling, History, Road Trips, Star Trek and Star Wars, a Romantic Heart, A Spiritual mind, Being honest and true, Family History Work, and even cooking. (Yes My father loves to cook, and normally does most of our holiday meals) and is addicted to Football and got me hooked as well. There is so much I love about my father, and I have missed him so much since I moved. (In the picture, Top Left-outside a restuaraunt on his birthday, Top Right-At my sisters wedding and shows his goofy side a bit, Bottom Left, Myself, My parents enjoying a nice sunday evening, and Bottom Right-At a BYU football Game- one of our favorite pasttimes, my hair is a complete mess, it was quite cold and windy that night)

So tell me about your Fathers in your life and what has made them an inspiration to you?

Best Fathers To See in Romance

Now This isn’t a full comprehensive list just a few of my top favorites I love to see!!!

Petals on the River by Kathleen Woodiwiss

Our hero makes such a cute father, I love how close he and his son are to each other. He goes out of his way to spend as much time with him as possible. Love that.

High Country Bride by Linda Lael Miller

this father now, he is a bit different but still love him the same. This father wants grandchildren, and wants to see his sons happy and married. But they are too stubborn, so comes up with a crazy plan that really works out in the end. But I do love seeing his relationship with his boys and its obvious how much he really loves them.

A Loving Scoundrel by Johanna Lindsey

James Malory, may be a ex pirate and Lord, and scoundrel and rake, and not normal, but he makes one of the best father’s around. He stands by his son, no matter what. I love how supportive he is when Jeremy finds his mate.

In Bed With A Highlander by Maya Banks

The relationship that Ewan has with his son, is darling and they are so alike in many ways. I hope my future hubby will be like that with our kids, because there is nothing sexier than a good father.

My Favorite Bride by Christina Dodd

This military man has his hands full, despite his work for the war office, he also has seven young girls to take care of. He does try his best, but MILITARY MAN!! That should say it all. He has no clue what he is really doing to be honest, but he does try as hard as he possibly can.

Love’s Sweet Revenge

There is something so unique About our Hero Jake. And especially I am in love not only with how he is with his wife, but especially his kids. You see how close they are, and even though Jake has a colorful past, he would do anything to keep his children safe and happy. And we see especially in this book, how it breaks him when his kids get hurt and he can’t fix it for them.

Awwww…love the pictures and the wonderful words about your dad! He just *looks* like a kind, fun guy and that’s great that you get your love of reading (among other things) from him. ๐Ÿ™‚ I consider my stepfather Joel as my “real” dad. He was a huge reader and really got me hooked on Westerns, some sci-fi, and even historical romance. I struggled with dyslexia as a kid so although I loved reading, I would get frustrated easily. He never said a bad word about how long it took me to finish a book and just let me go at my own pace.

As for fathers in romance, yes, please! I love seeing a devoted father, whether they’re single dads or part of a couple. Main character or secondary, doesn’t matter. But for some reason I always seem drawn to the bonds between father and son/daughter in shifter books. They have such a strong connection, like Kendrick in White Tiger by Jennifer Ashley or even Lucas in Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling series. *sigh*

Thanks darling!! Yes he is a good and fun person. That is awesome that you father got you hooked on reading. Westerns and Sci Fi are awesome to read.

Fathers in romance are the most swoon worthy in my book. There is just something more to them than the single ones. And Yes White Tiger was fantastic too!!

Love seeing you with your dad and family. Just got off the phone a few hours ago with your dad and feel you deeply when it comes to being a few thousand miles away. My dad loves road trips, camping, baseball, games and movies with the family, bbq-ing and his motorcycle. He’s really quiet, but has a wacky humor at times. My dad is a reader so long as its snowing and cold (he hates the cold). He reads westerns, adventures, age of sail, and thrillers along with health and fitness and art books. As a teen, I remember snitching books from his bedside stack because I read so much faster than him. I read it all in one night and then slipped it right back where I found it. He never figured it out when I did that.

Books with good dads. I’ve only read about Jake, above, but great choice there. Silver Thaw by Catherine Anderson, a couple of Sharon Sala’s Blessings, GA books. Several Carolyn Brown books. Place Your Betts by Katie Graykowski. I agree with Michele about Lucas and his cutie daughter in the Psy-Changeling series. Also Adam in Patricia Briggs’ series. The duke in Grace Burrowes’ Windhams series, No One But You by Leigh Greenwood, so many. ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh thank you Sophia!!! It is so hard being away from our Dad’s right? I am glad I moved, and it was for the right reasons but its so hard at times being away from him. Your Dad sounds like a awesome human being. Cool about the Motorcycle, but dad always wanted to have one but I think it scared my mom too much. haha funny about you stealing his books, honestly, I think my dad would have noticed if I had done that, especially his brand new Clive Cussler books we liked to read.

No One But You is a fantastic pick, I definitely agree with that one too. I do have Silver Thaw on my list, I do like Catherine Anderson and don’t get a chance to read enough of her.

Aww! This is such a sweet post. Your dad sounds like a really great guy. I’m sorry to hear he’s struggling with depression though, and I hope he’s able to get better soon! <3

I'm currently re-reading Devil in Spring, and I love what a great dad Sebastian is. Also Jake from Sustained! What a swoony guy!

Thank you Nick!!! He is pretty awesome, I hope he gets a handle on depression, but its a tough thing to shake.

Oh Devil in Spring, Sebastian does make a great father doesn’t he? But then with how he is with Evie, I just knew he would make a great dad. And Jake from Sustained is great too.

I lost my father a few years ago to Parkinson’s. We had a rocky relationship but I always knew I could rely on him when it counted and during his last year he moved closer to me and we had a lot of quality time together so I’m very grateful for that.

    Very sweet post!

Aw that’s awesome. Your daddy sounds like a great guy and how fun that he got you into reading romance and is a reader, too. I never met my dad but my granddad was amazing and filled that space. He was a reader, too, though more of mystery ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks Anna!!! He is a fantastic person. And yeah he got me into romance, and not just into books. But just growing up seeing the small things he would do for my mom, even smooching after family prayer or dancing in the kitchen…definitely taught me about romance in life too.

What a lovely post about your dad. What a great guy. I always get a bit sad on Father’s Day. My dad died suddenly when he was 54 and I was only 20. I wish my dad could have met my kids and got to know me as an adult. I was a bit of a brat as a teen. I was lucky to have him as long as I did.
