Book Review and Blog Tour-Moonlight Sins by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Moonlight Sins takes us down the roads of mysteries, old money, and ghosts that roam that halls and a spicy love story that grabs your attention!! A tale that will have you aching for the next book.

Jennifer L Armentrout is a fantastic author and I have always had an admiration for her work and I just love her style of writing, its the type of writing that you can look forward to because its so easy to fall into. I was really intrigued by the style of this new series. I have only read New Adult from her before, so I was curious how she would handle Contemporary romance with hints of a gothic theme set in New Orleans which is the perfect setting for a CR gothic romance and this book gave me all the tingles I love to experience in a solid romance and this became one of my favorites of the year so far.

Our fabulous key players are:

  • Lucien de Vincent, is the youngest of the brothers and a twin. He is dark and edgy and sensual. He is part of a family that has old money, more money than most people can imagine.
  • Julia Hughes, works with those in need at assistant homes. She has a compassionate heart and is kind and thoughtful. She never has flings, and is recovering from an emotionally draining marriage and her divorced husband that won’t stop bothering her.

Moonlight Sins is one of those books that you will always remember for the one reason in the UNIQUE style that it portrays. I have so much love for this author, and she always delivers and she definitely delivered in this book. I will be honest I didn’t know what to expect in this one….a gothic style romance in New Orleans, when I have only read her college romance themes yeah, I didn’t know what to really expect from this book but it definitely outwon any expectations I may have had previously.

It starts out when Lucien and his brothers find their father hanging from a ceiling fan, making it appear that he comitted suicide but none of them believe he would ever be capable of that. Their sister Maddie, has returned after ten years of being missing and can barely speak or move and they need a nurse. They find the ideal nurse, but Lucien is Maddie’s twin and much more protective of his sister.

So he heads over to where Julia is living, and meets up with her at the bar. Even though Julia is not one to have casual sex EVER, in fact this is the first time she throws caution to the wind and allows herself to enjoy the moment of the powerful chemistry she feels for this sexy southern man. She never expected that he would turn up to be her boss. But Lucien, knows that Julia is perfect for the job. And not just because she has the perfect training, but also because she is genuine and sincere. She really cares about others and he has never known anyone with such compassion and heart. He convinces her to stay on and likes to play with Julia and goes on “full seduction” mode.

I truly I LOVED their relationship, it was so sensual and swoony and I just wanted more of them. I rarely see this type of relationship in a contemporary romance so this book had such a fesh look to it. Honestly, these type of “courtships” you really only see in historical. So seeing this style in a contemporary romance just thrilled me to my toes. It does help that they live in the same home even if that “home” is a huge mansion that creaks and moans and has a haunting feel to it. The focus of the story is the romance between Lucien and Julia. We do get some interesting and complex add ons with the brothers and honestly at first I didn’t know what to make of the siblings. There was something different going on with the sister, and you don’t find out till the end what really makes her a true mystery. And boy the ending is one of the BEST I have ever read. There was so many surprises and shocks that I didn’t know what to think of it to be honest. But in a good way. I love an author that gives a good twist at the end without taking away from the love story or the “happy ending”.

“I want to know about you,” he spoke before she could, and then shifted closer, his knee pressed into her thigh once more. “I have questions. I’m made of them.”

She gave a little laugh as she shook her head. “There’s nothing more to know about me than what you already know.”

“There’s literally everything to know about you,” he insisted. “Where did you go to school? What really made you take a job like this one where you leave everything behind?”

“I went to Shippensburg University. You’ve probably never heard of it.” Like she’d ever answer that last question. Finishing off her tea, she smiled faintly. “It’s really late and I do need to get to sleep. Thank you for the tea. I think it will work.”

“But I haven’t asked you the most important question.”

Slipping off the stool, she let her hair fall forward, past her breasts. “And what is that?”

“How can you be here and be the most beautiful creature I’ve ever seen?”

Julia’s head swung to his so fast she thought her it would fall right off her shoulders.

Everything about the tone of his voice and the slightly wide eyes of his said he was being

genuine, but he couldn’t be serious. Her gaze sharpened. Was he drinking something harder than chamomile? Because there was no way in the world that he truly believed that she was the most beautiful creature he’d ever seen.

The question burned to the tip of her tongue. If he thought she was so beautiful then why did he walk away from her that night in her apartment? She swallowed the question so she didn’t have to swallow her pride.

At the end of the day, she knew who Lucian was. He was the kind of guy who couldn’t go a weekend without getting laid. They existed. She’d met a few while in college and when she did her stint at the hospital. They weren’t exactly particular when it came to who’d they be with. Pretty much came down to whoever was available at the time. Which meant she wasn’t going to be impressed with stray compliments that were tossed out as often as the trash was.

Lucian leaned and then spoke in a low voice, “There is another reason why I didn’t tell you who I was.”

The change of subject rattled her and she whispered back. “Why?”

He tilted his head so his mouth was directly above her ear. “Because I knew the moment you’d figured out who I was, you wouldn’t have let me come back to your apartment.”

Exhaling roughly, Julia knew she needed to pull away and stop this conversation. That was the professional and mature thing to do, but she didn’t move. She was frozen on her stool, her heart thumping in her chest.

He wasn’t done yet. “I knew that if you realized who I was, you would’ve never let me get my hand between those pretty thighs of yours and I would’ve never known how soft and slick you felt against my fingers.”

A bolt of red-hot lust blasted through her veins as heat poured into her very core. Those words created a storm inside her. A tremble rocked her body.

“So, yeah, that’s another reason why I didn’t say who I was.” His lips brushed the lobe of her ear, sending an illicit shiver across her skin. Pulse pounding, she drew back. She felt unsteady as Lucian straightened on his chair, and she felt so close—too close to do something irrevocably reckless. Like hopping off her stool and into his lap.

“You’re not supposed to bring that up,” she reminded him. “You promised.”

He tilted his head to the side. “I didn’t promise that.”

She opened her mouth.

“I didn’t,” he insisted, and when she dragged the conversation back through her thoughts, she realized he was right. He hadn’t.

Her eyes narrowed. “Even so, it would be the appropriate thing for you to do.”

“And I think you already know how I feel about doing the appropriate thing.”

She shook her head. It was way past time to end this conversation. “Thank you for the tea, Lucian, but—” A gasp cut her off.

Lucian rose and was in front of her so quickly that she was startled. “Say it again.”

Confusion swamped her. “Say what?”

“My name.”

They were close, and he towered over her by a good foot. Julia reached out, gripping the edge of the island. “Why?”

“Because I asked?” he offered, his lips curving up at the corners. “And because I like the way it sounds coming from your lips.”

Her heart did a weird little jump. She had no idea how to respond to that request. None whatsoever. But then he moved. He reached into the small place between them, catching the piece of her hair that had fallen across her cheek. Before she could move away, the back of his hand dragged across her cheek as he tucked the hair behind her ear. Her stupid, stupid body immediately responded once more.

Book Review-About That Kiss by Jill Shalvis

About That Kiss is a charming and sweet romance that will leave you with a smile on your face and a book that will evoke hoots of laughter and smiles all around…perfect book to get you out of the winter blues

I haven’t read Jill Shalvis in a while, I will admit that I didn’t get a kick out of book one, so I have been nervous to get back into this series but I can say that I really enjoyed About That Kiss way more than I was expecting too. I really have to be in the mood to enjoy Jill Shalvis and I think I was in the “right” mood for this book. And I am so happy that I really enjoyed this as much as I did. It was a bit different than what I was expecting, but I was pretty happy with out it played out in the end.

Both Joe and Kylie have a love/hate relationship going on. They have a great kiss which is why the title is so aptly named “about that kiss” because honestly they keep going back to that moment. Joe has a few alpha male tendacies, he has never taken it seriously with a woman before so of course he is way out of his element with Kylie. Now Kylie has had her sights set on her boss, but the way that Joe kisses her changes everything even though she knows that Joe doesn’t do relationships or long term….EVER!! And boy she feels like she is walking down a path that is so unknown.

What really made this book WOW the reader, is the chemistry that these two have. I do have to say that I LOVED their interchanges and boy these kissing changes are powerful I can tell you that much. Definitely blew me away and yeah I liked Joe’s character because his whole take control and kiss the gal against the wall or inside a closet…totally did it for me. And I really got a kick out of seeing them solve a mystery together and develop some true heartfelt feelings for each other along the way. There was an almost “poignant” feel to their relationship and I just adored the way this story developed especially the romance of the story was so “on key” and I have to say Bravo to Jill Shalvis for making this book so special for me.

Quickie Book Review-Bossman by Vi Keeland

Bossman is a delicious tale of an Alpha Male CEO, a feisty marketing specialist and some hot sexy tension in the office that will curl your toes.

Bossman is a story that has been recommended to me by many, especially by those that don’t read romance too often, so I just knew that this book I needed to grab up. I was delighted to find that it was a part of Audible’s Romance Package. So I grabbed it up and had a blast while I “listened while I worked” . I will say that I want to talk about the narration first. I really struggled with the narration at times.

At first, the female narrator, took a while to grow on me. Now eventually I did like her voice, but it took time. I would have loved to see more POV from our hero. We do get to see some flashbacks of his past, but I would have loved to get more depth from his character because HE ROCKED MY WORLD!! One unique aspect I have discovered from Vi Keeland, is that on the surface it seems like a fun and sexy romance, but there is so much emotional intimacy that is blew me away at first because I never expect it from this author.  I really adore the chemistry between these two. We have our hero, who knows how good looking he is and is cocky but highly fun to read. Our heroine doesn’t want to complicate her job with a relationship but it happens anyway.

The dynamics in their relationship proves to be wonderful and captivating. I was so drawn into this book here, the romance was delightful and I believe I was smiling all the way. They had me laughing and their quirks end up working so well for each other.

I do want what I don’t have. That’s part of it. But not in the way you think. Don’t ask me to explain it, but when I’m around you, I’m happy. That’s all I’m after

Overall this proved to be one of the most sexiest office romances you could ever pick up!! Gratifying, Sensual and Endearing!!

Book Review-The Baller by Vi Keeland

The Baller brings together a sexy pro football quarterback and a feisty sportscaster….a story that begins with intense chemistry and develops into a strong and poignant romance to curl your toes.

The Baller is another single title by Vi Keeland, although I am crossing my fingers that she will continue more with books like this one because she does great SPORT romances. I mean I was definitely hooked on this book from beginning to end. I am beginning to get addicted to the style of Vi Keeland. Her writing is so sassy and fun and gives me hoots of entertainment from the first page to the very end. Our featured key players in this wonderful book are:

  • Brody Easton, our shameful playboy, Brody is the Quarterback for a Pro Football team. He seems to have everything: A successful career, playing a sport he loves, women dropping at his feet and more than enough money to suit him for the rest of his life. But Brody has a painful past, and has been hurt and keeps things casual even though he earns for love in a place that no one can see
  • Delilah Maddox is a Football TV presenter and reporter and has worked herself to the bone for YEARS to get to where she is. She can name any stat of any player in the league in a heartbeat. She is the daughter of an infamous football pro player herself and understands the passion for the sport.

I have to say how impressed I was with this story, and I honestly didn’t think that I would enjoy this one as much as I did. I have no clue how Vi Keeland does it, but her books SO work for me especially her audio books. She has the best narrators and these narrators ROCKED MY WORLD!! Their voices are beyond sexy and sultry and I just wanted to listen more and more. The lady narrator I believe I have listened to before: Mackenzie Cartright…I really loved her voice. It was very engaging and I felt she implemented the tones of the book very well. And our male narrator: Sean Crisden —has such a swoony voice. And he totally worked for this book, he had such a rough and deep voice that matches the hero so well.

A great aspect of this book that I really enjoyed that you don’t always see in dual POV, is that we just about get the hero’s perspective as much as the heroine and that was SO awesome. Too many times we get too much heroine and not enough of the hero’s side of things, so I found it quite refreshing to see his side of things and although I would have loved to see more of him, what we get to see is pretty stellar.

Our story begins when Delilah, has been promoted and is starting to settle into her new job. She still has to deal with rude male workers who try to make everything about sex. Delilah has had to work so hard for the position she got. And now she is the living the dream. When she goes to interview the star MVP quarterback, Brody Easton, chemistry is off the charts between them. Even though she tries to be professional….Brody is shameful when he likes a woman and drops his towel for the WHOLE world to see. Yeah….you bet that the start of this book is unconventional and I was curious to see how these two would get along because on the surface they are so different from each other. The hero is playful and carefree and our heroine is a bit too serious. But once you get to the inner cores of the characters you begin to see how they balance each other out especially in their quirks.

“… You’re hot as fuck. And I like you.”

“Oh really? You have a funny way of showing that you like me. Every time I see you, you try to sabotage my interview.”

“Every time I see you, I expose myself to you.” He flashed me his trademark smile. “That’s how we show girls we like them where I’m from.”

“Where are you from, the jungle?”

“Brooklyn.”

I truly adored both Delilah and Brody in different ways. However, I will say that Brody was a hero that I soon fell in love with. Because yeah he is silly at times, but he has such HEART and depth to him and I love seeing him being “peeled” like an onion and what great layers he has that you just fall so quickly into.

There is one aspect of the story that drove me a bit crazy was the ex-girlfriend of Brody’s. It does add a sense of conflict to the story, so I can see why the author put this aspect in, it just got a bit frustrating toward the end. But in all honesty, it didn’t take away at all of my enjoyment of this story. And it was very unique, much different from what I was expecting especially when we get to see her POV on occasion.

Overall The Baller was a fantastic and thrilling story that had me feeling…ALL THE FEELS!! A story that is engaging, endearing and empowering.

Book Review-Easy Kisses by Kristen Proby

Easy Kisses is a sweet and deeply emotionally riveting romance that takes its readers back to New Orleans with a sexy brit and a southern gal who discover what true love is really all about…

Easy Kisses was such a fantastic addition to this wonderful series and a bit different. What I have really admired about this series is how unique each book is to the sibling of the Boudreaux family. And this story takes some unique elements and implements a warm endearing love story.

  • Simon Danbury, an English Brit, has become famous for his inspirational retreats for women especially in his talent of building of women’s self-esteem and learning to rise above challenges. Simon is hardworking, driven, and loves people. He understands what it means to be hurt by others and strives to help others rise above abusive relationships. He has a great sense of humor and is thoughtful and romantic. SUPER SWOONY!!!
  • Charly Boudreaux is one of the infamous Boudreaux family, she wanted her own place and set up a shop of shoes and dreams of expansion. But she has her own struggles and is emotionally in a tough spot. Charly is spunky, outspoken, but loving and supportive. She is driven and determined but craves love and commitment like her siblings have discovered and what her parents had together.

I personally think a lot of us feel ashamed when we try so hard to help someone, only to have that help thrown back in our face or ignored altogether, and we are doing ourselves such a disservice in feeling that way. It’s important to speak up, and to talk to those closest to you so they can help you. No one who loves you will stand for you being manipulated or hurt, and you should not be ashamed to talk about it.

THIS is the BEST book of the series or what I have read from Kristen Proby so far….HOT DANG,,, this book was beyond dreamy and I just wanted to sigh in so many moments because this book is the epitome of why I read a romance. There is hardly any angst, which I really liked. Of course, Proby has to put in some kind of conflict toward the end because no relationship is perfect right? But what I loved about this book is how easy this book starts off and the relationship between Simon and Charly.

Charly has been coerced by her sister, to join this women’s retreat in Montana. A completely different atmosphere, with mountains and hiking and bears. At first, she hates that she agreed to do this retreat but she soon realizes how good it is for her and how she needs some emotional and mental TLC. Charly works so hard with her business and needs this break and even though it forces her to face up to her past and what she really wants in life especially in the future with a man, she also comes to terms with who she is and where she wants to go on an emotional level. Then she meets Simon Danbury.  Simon is a British motivational speaker for women (AWESOME!!) Truly, this man is beyond sexy because I love how kind and thoughtful he is. There is truly nothing wrong with Simon, except for the fact that he has some unresolved issues with his ex who really really hurt him. But I love how he is with women and how he views them and really he practically worships women and so cool. I love how respectful he is of them. Now he has a strong chemistry with Charly but knows that there is no future for them, and he refuses to give into temptation and compromise his values of these “women retreats” because he wants women to feel safe. But Charly is more than eager to get into his bed and the chemistry between them is off the charts. They seriously love being together physically and Charly starts to realize that Simon gives her what she has craved for years.

The fact that I haven’t been with a man in forever is of no consequence. I want this man. Right now.

But then they go their separate ways until Simon realizes how happy he was with the short time that he and Charly were together and wants more because he knows that what they have is real and wants to explore it. So while working on his projects, he settles in New Orleans for a short time. Charly and Simon begin to “date” and really court each other. And of course, we have the Boudreaux brothers go all “protective” and make sure that Simon really cares for Charly. Which is pretty hilarious, because in some ways, men have not changed over the centuries hehe

There was such a normalcy to this story like honestly, you could see this book happening in real life….that is how real this story felt. Because the way they connect and date each other is so endearing and you can relate so well to it. But we also have two characters that are a bit flawed at times, and make mistakes. There is great personal growth for both these two individually and it was great to see them work though their own mistakes and become stronger together.

You’re stuck with me, love

Overall I found Easy Kisses a truly endearing and profound story that will make you grin like a Cheshire kitty…..Kristen Proby has outdone herself with this treasure!!

About Kristen Proby

Kristen was born and raised in a small resort town in her beloved Montana. In her mid-twenties, she decided to stretch her wings and move to the Pacific Northwest, where she made her home for more than a dozen years.

During that time, Kristen wrote many romance novels and joined organizations such as RWA and other small writing groups. She spent countless hours in workshops, and more mornings than she can count up before the dawn so she could write before going to work. She submitted many manuscripts to agents and editors alike, but was always told no. In the summer of 2012, the self-publishing scene was new and thriving, and Kristen had one goal: to publish just one book. It was something she longed to cross off of her bucket list.

Not only did she publish one book, she’s since published close to thirty titles, many of which have hit the USA Today, New York Times and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists. She continues to self publish, best known for her With Me In Seattle and Boudreaux series, and is also proud to work with William Morrow, a division of HarperCollins, with the Fusion Series.

Kristen and her husband, John, make their home in her hometown of Whitefish, Montana with their two pugs and two cats.
