Meet the Bedwyns…six brothers and sisters—men and women of passion and privilege, daring and sensuality…Enter their dazzling world of high society and breathtaking seduction…where each will seek love, fight temptation, and court scandal…and where Rannulf Bedwyn, the rebellious third son, enters into a liaison that is rather risqué, somewhat naughty, and…Slightly Wicked.
With his laughing eyes and wild, rakish good looks, Lord Rannulf Bedwyn is a hard man to resist. To Judith Law, a woman in need of rescue when her stagecoach overturns, Rannulf is simply her savior, a heroic stranger she will reward with one night of reckless passion before she must become a companion to her wealthy aunt. Imagine Judith's shock when the same stranger turns out to be among England's most eligible bachelors…and when he arrives at Harewood Grange to woo her cousin. Certainly, they had made no vows, no promises, but Rannulf never did forget his uninhibited lover…nor did she forget that one delicious night. And as scandal sets the household abuzz, Rannulf proposes a solution…but when Judith refuses to have him—in love or wedlock—Rannulf has only one choice: to wage a campaign of pure pleasure to capture the heart of the woman who has already won his.
In Slightly Wicked, we have our two main characters who by chance, meet on the road. They join forces and spend a passionate night together. A night neither of them forget. Our heroine is having little choice but to go to her Aunt’s home, and become her and her grandmother’s companion. She knows that due to the debts her brother has accumulated, that her family is on financial ruin. So she has no choice but to become a unpaid servant of her distant relatives. While hosting a house party, one of the eligible bachelors, that her cousin is hoping to win over, is none other Rannulf, the one man she spent a wild night with. Now this story definitely adds a certain dilemma and conflict. I do like the whole theme here, which is a bit cinderella but not fully. The relationship between these two, is pretty passionate. But there is many misunderstandings, and has a bit of a forbidden tone to it. Since Rannulf has promised his grandmother to marry the lady ( Judith’s cousin) and then we have the fact that Judith is no more than a servant. This isn’t an easy road for either of them to travel, and there are certain hurdles they must overcome in order to find their own happiness. What I adored most about this story was seeing the way that it unwinds. And Man does Mary Balogh do a brilliant job with this book. Once I got into it, I just couldn’t put it down—so good. Her writing is very engaging, so no hardship in getting involved in this romance. But we also have some interaction with this boisterous Bedwyn family and the more I read of them, the more I love even more. I have only read three books of the saga but man these siblings—-they are so full of live and energy yet very VERY unique in their own way. A bright and colorful family I am eager to get to know more of.
Had I read Balogh or not…I can not remember
I love this author and this series although I think my favorite is her Huxtable Quintet
Sorry this wasn’t your favorite but great review!
Thanks for the review! Sounds like a really intriguing storyline. I’ll be looking for this and sharing with my ‘book twin’ who also loves Mary Balogh. 🙂
I read this series years ago, but don’t remember much about this book. I know I enjoyed it, but not much more than that. I need to schedule a re-read. Slightly Dangerous is my favorite of the series because Wulfric is the best!
This sounds quite good with lots of juicy bits and twists to keep us entertained.
