Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag

by | Jul 9, 2017 | Uncategorized | 15 comments

I saw this tag on Quinn’s blog at Quinn’s Book Nook and I knew that I had to try this one out. Its always a good thing to look back and see what I have read and see what books impressed me the most.

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2017.

This book was AMAZING!! I just read this book and it was superbly written, and so dang good. There were many publisher delays on this book, since the first book came out in 2014 I believe. And it was so worth the long wait for this one.

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2017.

I know I should be able to choose one, but quite frankly that would be way too hard for me to do. Both of these books were great sequels. Kiss My Boots, is the second in a new author, and it was simply wonderful. I love this authors writing, because its not overdone with drama or other unneeded elements, the focus is the romance in such a sweet and endearing way.

Wild and Sweet was just as good if not better than book one in this new series that is fantastic. Rhenna Morgan has done a tremendous job with this series and this book had me at hook, line and sinker.

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.

I have heard so many fabulous things about this book, and is still at the top of my list, and definitely will be reading this before the year is out.

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.

Yes I am super eager for both of these here. First off, Karen Hawkins book….I CANT wait for this one. This book will go on my auto buy list for sure. This is an author that I have loved, and the first author that got me hooked on romance novels. And her writing is spectacular. And even though the cover isn’t my favorite from hers, I just know the book will be fab.

Laura Kaye’s latest series has been wonderful, and I know its not everyone’s cup of tea…but it certainly is mine. I love this MC—-who go out of their way to protect and defend those that need help.

5. Biggest disappointment.

I had heard fabulous things about this book, so I decided to pick it up. Unfortunately it was a disappointing read for me. I just couldn’t get into it until the very end, which was saddening because this author used to be a author where I couldn’t put her books down. Even though I loved the hero, as a overall book, it didn’t impress me and I had high hopes for it.

6. Biggest surprise.

Both of these books were pretty surprising for me. The Scottish Duke blew me away. Because I never knew with Ranney if its a book I will ease into easily or will it be more challenge. But this book pulled me in right away and I didn’t expect it especially since I was a bit put off by the covers of the series.

Mr. President and its companion book Commander in Chief, surprised me as well. They were amazing, and despite the cliffhanger (which Evans tends to do at times) I LOVED every moment.

7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)

Amber Bardan is my new favorite. I just discovered her this year. And her writing was the type I wasn’t expecting. She gave me plenty of surprises and I admire that in a author.

8. Newest fictional crush.

Valentin from Silver Silence….man this hero is sexy and gruff and mouthewatering hot. He has a grumbly bear exterior, but is soft and cuddly. He is so tender and sweet and playful with the cubs. He is devoted and patient with his mate, I admired how he never gave up on her no matter how much it hurt him. And he was so thoughtful and kind.

9. Newest favourite character.

Alec MacDara, he is a modernized yet not highlander. He is respectful towards women, a fighter and warrior, but is kind and gentle and sensual. He admires a woman with curves over the super thin and skinny ones. I like that he sees women as they are and loves them. And his character is so entertaining.

Then we have Caleb, who is a friend of our heroine in “Day of the Duchess” and he was so funny and charming and a bit of a rogue at times. His book I believe is up next *crossing fingers* and I just can’t wait.

10. Book that made you cry.

Yes this book made me cry….which I was expecting so I had a box of tissues by my side with this one. Jake and Miranda are a fantastic couple, but in this book, we see some difficult and challenges for them that they have to face and it gets pretty emotional for me but I LOVED it anyway. If you have read the previous books in the series, than you will love this one.

11. Book that made you happy.

Oh I had so much fun with both of these and they were both highly anticipitated and full satisfied my romantic heart to the fullest. Devil in Spring, I will admit I was nervous about since I wasn’t sure about the heroine in previous books. But typical of Kleypas style I just fell in love with it. Blackthorne’s Bride is a book that I have been waiting for—for quite a long while. And for the first time this author ventured into regency type romance and it ROCKED!! This book just had me happy all the way through and left me with a smile on my face.

12. Favourite book to film adaptation you saw this year.

Probably the Circle. I haven’t watched many new movies this year, and I believe this is the only one I have seen that I liked for the most part (except for the ending….they didn’t do a good job on the ending. But its Emma Watson and I loved her role in this one.

13. Favourite review you’ve written this year. (Booktube version: Favourite video you have done so far in this year)

This was such a fun review to write. This is a book I have re read plenty of times, and one of my favorite books, but it was wonderful to write out my thoughts that I have had for this story over the years. (Click on image to read it)

14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

I’ve only read Mr. President by Katy Evans. I expected so much from that book but sadly, it didn’t impress. Sigh. I did pick up the consequent book(s?) but it sadly didn’t offer much. I’ve seen a few of my blogger friends who enjoyed The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband so I definitely want to read that.

    Thanks for sharing!

oh I am sorry to hear Mr. President didn’t work out for you. But some books aren’t for everyone right? We are all different. I think you would like Julia Quinn’s book though.

I’m so sorry that the JQ book didn’t work for you. I absolutely loved it, but I can understand your issues. I still need to read Devil in Spring! And I really want to look into that C.L. Wilson series! I love the covers.

I think if I could have been more into the JQ book, I would have enjoyed it more, although the ending was great. You really should look into C.L. Wilson (she is the author that got me into fantasy romance), her books are fantastic.

Eep! I’m so excited you loved The Sea King so much. I will be reading it at some point this summer and I can’t wait. I’m thinking of re-reading the first book.
I’m bummed that The Girl with the Make Believe Husband was a disappointment for you though. I mean I understand why, but I’m still sad.
I still need to read that Amy Bardan book! I’m pretty sure I bought it too.

haha Yeah The Sea King was pretty fabulous. I read 600 pages in four hours in one sitting. And you know after reading it I just had to do a re read of Winter King LOL

Yeah I was pretty sad about JQ book, especially since I adored her earlier works. Her writing just doesn’t seem to work for me like it used to.

And Yes Amy Bardan’s book was great, I love a character that you think isn’t a good person but ends up being a really good person once you learn the truth about them. Lots of fun twists for sure.

So looking forward to The Sea King! And I’m glad you loved Amy Bardan’s work as well as Katy Evans. Yay! I have to agree about your Fictional Crush, choosing Valentin. *sigh* He was such a cool guy–and an extremely caring one, too. I loved it when he got all grumbly but then he kind of melted when the cubs were around and being mischievous. 🙂

I have hard such wonderful things about Marsha Canham, but I still haven’t managed to fit in a book of hers yet. I really need to. Ummmm…you haven’t read Easy’s book? Yeah. I’ll be gently nudging you about that until you do. 😉 Julia Quinn was at the top of her game when she first started writing, but I really feel like the quality of her content has gone down over the years.

Great tag. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
