Book Tag-I Dare You

by | Mar 9, 2017 | Uncategorized | 14 comments

I saw this book tag over at Books and Beauty Are My Bag—and since I rarely do these tags I thought I would participate in this!!! So here we go.

RULES:
You must be honest
You must answer all the questions
You must tag at least 4 people (Iโ€™ll be breaking this one and tagging the whole internet. Go big or go home!)

1. What book has been on your shelf the longest?

A Bride For His Convenience by Edith Layton. I have been wanting to read this book ever since I first discovered historical romance years ago. I don’t know why I haven’t read this yet, I think I just keep forgetting I need to read it.

2. What is your current read, your last read, and the book youโ€™ll read next?

My current read is At Close Range by Laura Griffin and currently listening to Angel’s Rest by Emily March. My last read book was Sinful Scottish Laird by Julia London and the book I will read next will be Her True Match by Paige Tyler.

3. What book did everyone like, but you hated?

The Fever series, I am not sure that I HATE this book, or that I HATE any book that I have read. However I had so many issues with this series. After reading the first five books, hoping that it would somehow work for me, it never did. There were some things I liked of course but overall I can’t say that I liked these books and just aren’t for me. And quite frankly I have lost all my respect for this author and won’t be picking her up again.

4. What book do you keep telling yourself youโ€™ll read, but you probably wonโ€™t?

Outlander by Diana Gabadalon, even though I have enjoyed the TV series, the actual development of the series is a bit of a turn off for me. I love epic love romances, but this one just doesn’t seem that appealing to me at all and I know I will never get around to reading it.

5. What book are you saving for retirement?

Probably some highly recommended YA romances, so they can make me feel young again hehe

6. Last page: read it first, or wait โ€™til the end?

You know what? I used to read the last page first when I was worried about a book having a happy ending or not. I hate it when the main character dies or my couple doesn’t end up together. However I have stopped doing this since what I read now is romance novels, and they always have a happy ending unless I feel like it has a cliffhanger than I will, because it still doesn’t ruin the book for me at all. Its not about the destination, its the journey.

7. Acknowledgement: waste of paper and ink, or interesting aside?

I really love it when authors do this page, I love seeing an author share their gratitude to others that helped them or inspired them through the process of writing the title.

8. Which book character would you switch places with?

Oh my goodness, that is such a hard call honestly. But I would have to say that it would be Miranda Hayes from the series Outlaw Hearts by Rosanne Bittner. Now those who have read this series probably think I am crazy hehe However this character is so courage and full of strength. And despite all the sacrfices and losses, she knows what is most important in life and fights for it.

9. Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life? (Place, time, person?)

Yes. In This Is All I Ask, we have a heroine who struggles majorly with self esteem (and there are valid reasons for it). I always have felt a connection to this character, because I personally struggled with this and major depression when I was in HS and I felt like I could really relate with her back when I was struggling majorly and didn’t have anyone to turn to.

10. Name a book that you acquired in an interesting way.

I would say the “book of remembrance” from my grandparents. This is a collection of records, stories, pictures and much more that is a legacy from my grandparents who devoted most of their lives to family history research. Its such a treasure for me and they inspired me to continue in their work of doin this research. As being LDS, doing Genealogy is very important and this book is such an inspiration to me and also a symbol of everything good my grandparents stood for in their lives.

11. Have you ever given a book away for a special reason to a special person?

Yes, a book called Between Husband and Wife. I gave it to my sister on her wedding day. For some reason, many mormons in Utah are kept in the dark about sex and intimacy between two people that love each other. Its mostly a culture thing. But this book is simply empowering, and written by two LDS marriage therapists.

12. Which book has been with you most places?

This Is All I Ask by Lynn Kurland, this book I carry with me everywhere and it is almost falling apart at the seams I have read it so much.

13. Any โ€œrequired readingโ€ you hated in high school that wasnโ€™t so bad two years later?

I really had no problems with whatever I had to read in High School, most of it was classics and some pretty good ones.

14. Used or brand new?

I like both, but there is something so wonderful about used books, the history and the scent and the whole experience of it.

15. Have you ever read a Dan Brown book?

Nope, I like the movies based on his books, but doubt I will ever pick him up.

16. Have you ever seen a movie you liked more than the book?

This rarely happens, but if I had to choose, probably Fifty Shades of Grey. So much better than the books.

17. Have you ever read a book thatโ€™s made you hungry, cookbooks included?

I can’t think of any fiction at the top of my head, but I love the Skinny Taste cookbooks….amazing recipes but the pictures always makes me hungry.

18. Who is the person whose book advice youโ€™ll always take?

I would say, Michele from Harlequin Books, we have the exact same interest in books and everything she recommends I LOVE, so I have learned to trust her completely.

19. Is there a book out of your comfort zone (e.g., outside your usual reading genre) that you ended up loving?

Price of a Kiss by Linda Kage, it deals with a character whose profession is gigolo, and yeah I never thought I would be okay with this but I fell in love and is probably one of my favorite NA books.

I love this tag!! I’m gonna bookmark it so I can do it later, when I have more time.
But Renee… Outlander! It’s SO good. Jamie is one of my favorite book boyfriends (and boyfriend almost doesn’t work for him – he’s such a manly man :D)
    I hope you’re having a great week!

I am glad I was not the only one who checked the end first! If a main character died and I didn’t know (especially if it was a series) I would be furious. So, yeah, for a long time, I only read books that I had ‘checked’ first!

I loved reading your answers to these questions. It’s such a fun tag!

I read Outlander years ago, and gasp! I didn’t love it. But I do think it was my mood at the time, and I am determined to try it again. I just bought it in audio recently.

Also, I’m hoping to start and knock out the Fever series this year. Sorry it was a bust for you. ๐Ÿ™

I like this tag. I may have to do it. I thought about reading Outlander, but it never happened. It probably never will.

Nice tag! It is fun to see how different everyone’s tastes in books are. I loved the first 5 books in the Fever series but I am pretending it ends there. I love Outlander and am a bit obsessed by the show. I have read almost everything Dan Brown has written but I still love a lot of books that you do. The book from your grandparents sounds like a wonderful treasure.

Wow.. I want to do this tag. ๐Ÿ˜€

You’re like me. I always read the last pages to make sure that there is a happy ending. I don’t like happily reading a story and then end up knowing that one of the main characters is dying or dies. I hate that.

Btw, I loved Price of a Kiss. You make me want to reread it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ohhh a tag…hmmmmm I’m debating weather I want to do this or not ๐Ÿ˜‰

I am with you on Outlander. I started reading the book but I just couldn’t get into it. I liked the TV show but I only watch like the first few episodes of season 1 and then I just lost interest? Not sure Outlander is my thing now.

First off, thank you so much for the shout out on book advice–and right back atcha! It made my day to read that. *blushes* Loved the post and unsurprisingly I agreed with your answers. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I try not to skip ahead or to the end of a book but I always, always read the Acknowledgement page. And what a cool question, which book has been with you the most places. As a kid I dragged around the first three books in the Little House on the Prairie series everywhere, but as an adult it’s probably The City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.
