In this second of the sultry, Western-set Coming Home series from New York Times bestselling author Harper Sloan, Quinn Davis might finally have a shot at her own happily-ever-after—but will she let love in, or will she tell it to go ahead and kiss her boots?
Quinn Davis prefers to live her life quietly. She’s the stereotypical tomboy with two overprotective big brothers who have always been there to protect her, especially from devilishly handsome cowboys with silver tongues. That is, until Tate Montgomery comes riding into town. Their first meeting, however, is far from something out of a fairy tale and only further convinces Quinn that men aren’t worth her time.
The only place Tate Montgomery ever truly felt at home growing up was during the long, sweltering summer months he spent at his Gram and Paw’s farm in Pine Oak, Texas. Now, Tate has returned to his childhood sanctuary seeking a fresh start—but if he’s being entirely honest, he’s not just back for the wranglers and Stetsons. During those summers, Quinn was a friend-turned-young-love who Tate lost when life threw him a curveball and he cut all ties to his past; but all it takes is one glance at the raven-haired beauty he did his best to forget for him to realize just how much he’s been missing….
Kiss My Boots is the second book in the series, and what a stomp your feet romance this turned out to be and kicked me all out to the stars with this book!!! This is not necessarily an easy romance though. These two have been through some rough times and find their happy ending somehow. It picks off pretty quickly after the first book. Quinn Davis and Tate Montgomery were once sweethearts, but after a fiery hot, full of lovin’ summer, with their future together all mapped out, Tate walked out of her life with no word and for years she still loves him. She can’t seem to move on from him, and so she stays in their small town, working as a mechanic and doing what she loves until the man that still haunts her comes back in her life for real this time. Tate had good reasons for leaving Quinn, and he couldn’t go to her even though he wanted to, but now he is free and will need to fight for her….
Now, this is a second chance romance and the trope fits this couple so much. I don’t want to reveal Tate’s real reasons for leaving Quinn because when you find out, it will just about break your heart and ache for this lonely cowboy that needed to do what was necessary to protect those he loves. Tate is honorable and courage, smart as a whip. Quinn is not your conventional woman. She loves to work on cars, her favorite place is her car repair shop and working with the grease and oil and still feel like a woman and doesn’t need the frills to be who she is. What is most wonderful about this heroine, is how proud she is of who she is. She doesn’t need to be more than she is, and is more than happy with who she has become. And yeah she kicks butt in this book. She takes no prisoners and isn’t easy to win over, but Tate is her true match and it was fantastic to see these two really come together and become honest with each other. Even Quinn’s family can see it, even though they don’t “approve” of Tate because of how he hurt heryou, they also know how much Quinn loves Tate even after all this time and push her in the direction of finding the real truth before reigning down true judgment. The romance is passionate and fiery from the beginning, they definitely know how to handle each other in all the right ways. Once Quinn and Tate come to terms with the past, than the story really picks up speed….seeing them reconnect slowly with each other, learning to trust and love again and finding a true home together.
Been workin’ toward this moment for weeks now, Tate. You came back when I never thought I would see you again. You mended what was broken when you left, then healed the pain that was there long before we had even met. You are the reason that I’ve found myself whole after a lifetime of knowin’ somethin’ was missin’. You will never know a day without me showin’ you just how thankful I am to have you back in my life, Tate. Its our time now, Tate. And anyone dumb enough to try and stand in our can just kiss my damn boots.
This book had me laughing so hard I was crying, their antics and bantering, the quirkiness and silly games and tricks they play on each other and the way they truly have fun being together. Its a romance they will leave your grinning like a Cheshire cat and want more from this author. So hold onto your saddles cowboys and cowgirl….because this love affair will be one hell of a ride!!!
Books N Tunes Reading Challenge:
I decided to pick “For Her” by Chris Lane—because you see how much these two sacrifice to eventually get to their happy ending!!!
In general I’m not huge on second chance romances. I’m not really sure why. I used to love them years ago, but these days they are kind of a turn off. But I am really curious about this one. Plus her name is Quinn!!!!!!
I am sorry to hear that second chance isn’t your favorite trope, its weird how our reading tastes tend to change over the years sometimes right? I think you would like this authors style, and the heroine is awesome.
Hmm, I’m mighty curious about this book and series now. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Renee. I adore second chance romances and that song (and video) was gorgeous. I’m so in for this!
I read the first book but found she’s not a good fit for me. I do love her covers!
It sounds pretty amazeballs 😀
Aww! It does sound like a really heartbreaking, but fulfilling type of second chance romance. I don’t really do lots of emotional read but I secretly love the angst from a second chance romance. I’ll consider this one! 🙂
Great review!
Aww this sounds like a fun and sweet second chance romance! They sound like a couple worth rooting for! I’ll have to keep this one in mind. Great review!
Oh, I’m already rooting for them just knowing there was some serious mysterious reason he had to leave. Already have book one on the list. Great review, Renee, and I’m humming that tune now. LOL
