As an Advocate for his colony, Julian Sawyer travels to Earth to bring back the Chosen--women who possess energy potent enough to help revitalize his people. The stunning, silver-clad beauty who strides into his club one night radiates a sensual magnetism unlike any he's encountered, and Julian realizes that Asia Callahan is not just Chosen, she is his kindra: his one true mate.
For months, Asia has tracked the beautiful and mysterious Julian across the country, convinced that he's behind the disappearance of her sister and a dozen other women. She's prepared to believe he's a ruthless killer, but when she presents herself as bait, she discovers that the truth is far more shocking. Taken to a strange, hazardous realm she never knew existed, Asia will face the ultimate choice--between abandoning the life she's always known, and forsaking a passion as dangerous as it is powerful.

my-review-updatedSummary

Julian Sawyer, is the advocate and leader for his people. A people that are dying of energy, and what they need only Julian can provide. Julian has been on Earth for a while, looking for the best vessel for energy for his people, a warm and willing woman. What he encounters is a feisty female who happens to be his mate. But he needs to convince her of his sincerity first, which won’t be a easy task. Asia Callahan is on the hunt, for the man that killed her sister, and her prey is Julian who is  not what she expects. He anticipates every move she makes against him, but she is thrown a curve ball she never expected…a man that isn’t human or from Earth and takes her in a place that is so far different from anything she knows or is familar with. Julian is normally a man of honor, and didn’t feel he had much choice in taking Asia with him back home, and seeks to prove to her how sorry he is, and to win her over slowly. But both Julian and Asia learn that nothing is so simple as courtin in Julian’s world….because there are dangers and mystery and ingrigue and enemies surrouding them that they must defeat before starting on their HEA.

The Hero

Julian Sawyer, has some rare gifts that allow him to bring others to his people and feed those that are practically dying from lack of energy. His people were almost deccimated years ago, most of their women killed. Julian is considered a leader or even a sort of “king” of his group of people he is over. One of his primary responsibilities is to see that their needs are met….and that means bringing over willing human women to feed the others energy that they are practically starving from. Julian is a man who can admire and respect. Now even though he had to bring Asia over unwillingly, he is also honorable and protective. He genuinely cares about everyone that he protects. We also see a hero that is torn between what is good for his people and his own wants and desires to have his own mate in Asia. He doesn’t rush or push her into anything too much and I really liked that about his character. Definitely a hero you can support fully.

The Heroine

Asia Callahan has trained to be  a fighter and an assassin, she brings in those that are evil or corrupt and brings her own “type” of justice. She knows about the truest horrors of the world. But she is at the end of her rope, hunting for who she believes to have killed her sister. Asia isn’t your “typical” heroine, in fact from what Frank normally writes in her heroines I was surprised by Asia—in both good and bad ways. Quite frankly as much as I admired her spunk and ass kicking ways….she could get on my nerves especially in the beginning. She does mellow out though and become more likable. But sometimes those strong personalities can be too much and Asia has that in spades. However….despite that I rooted for her anyway. She does become more endearing as the story continues on and we see some different sides to her. Portions of her character you don’t see in the beginning but I loved seeing the various facets to her character.

Plot and Story Line

Hunting Julian was one hell of a ride and so SO different from anything I have read and quite a unique experience with reading Frank. Now I adore Frank, she has written some amazing books so far however Hunting Julian was unique and challenging and really proves itself. At first I wanted to set it aside, because it didn’t seem like the type of story that I would really enjoy but I was proved wrong. You do need to stick with it for a little while and then you won’t regret it. Hunting Julian is the first book of a duo series. We see a unique setting one that mixes both fantasy and science fiction elements….and boy was that interesting to see how this book came together. What I did like, that I really respect from Frank is that she doesn’t dump a ton of information at you in the beginning. She slowly unravels the information bit by bit, and even though you might occasionally get confused….all the answers become revealed. I definitely had to learn some patience while reading this one because I just wanted all the details and information right away. It was quite different to see this world come to life and boy I just wanted more of it by the end there. The romance is quite well developed and we see how even though these two have some major issues to work out in the beginning….they work them out and work as a unified team. I truly couldn’t get enough of these two especially once they work out the major problems with their relationship and accept what they have and fight for each other!! This is a book that will challenge the reader with every chapter.

The Cover

Purple is great…but I love the feels I get from the cover. Such mystery attached to it….you just want to dig a bit deeper.

Overall View

Hunting Julian is simply wonderful and a book I had a hard time putting down once I got into it. Its a romance of different worlds and cultures….of fight, love and determination!!!

Frank does write some great PNR. I haven’t read this one yet but I’m sure I’ll pick it up. Thank you for mentioning that this is the type of book you have to stick with and the issues will work out by the end. Like you, I enjoy a strong female lead but not if they’re overbearing.
