IN THE HEAT OF DESIRE
Cocky. Clever. Courageously independent. Alf has survived on the perilous streets of St. Giles by disguising her sex. By day she is a boy, dealing in information and secrets. By night she's the notorious Ghost of St. Giles, a masked vigilante. But as she saves Hugh from assassins, she finds herself succumbing to temptation.
ONE KISS WILL CHANGE THEIR LIVES FOREVER
When Hugh hires Alf to investigate the Lords of Chaos, her worlds collide. Once Hugh realizes that the boy and the Ghost are the same, will Alf find the courage to become the woman she needs to beโbefore the Lords of Chaos destroy them both?
Duke Of Pleasure is a fantastic story that really swept me away and is definitely a surprise of sorts. I honestly didn’t expect to enjoy this one as much as I did here. And what was also fun was seeing the growth of the plot of the series. Inย The Duke Of Pleasureย this is Alf and Hugh Fitzroy’s book. I had no clue if these two would make a good match, but surprise…they really really do. It all starts on one late evening, Hugh is searching for information, and is attacked by a band of thieves and almost killed, but then one masked woman saves his life and then kisses him as bold as brass. Alf our heroine of the story, grew up with no parents or family, learning to be cunning and fast, and to make the rooftops of the city her home. She has had to survive, learning to get information. But when Hugh get’s too close to his enemies, he will need Alf to find out the truth and to save his family.
The Duke of Pleasure is a wonderful story which was very unique for a historical romance. I always love seeing such a strong heroine and she and Hugh are a great match for each other. Hugh is on a mission, to bring down members of high society who are evil. But they are a secret society, and kill their own before revealing themselves. Hugh and Alf come together here, to work together but the moment that Hugh realizes that Alf is a woman, everything changes. The relationship only goes deeper. I truly enjoyed the chemistry these two have together. And the way that Alf is with Hugh’s children here is wonderful. There are quite a few heart-felt moments, and seeing these four come as a family is truly beautiful. The way that Alf makes an effort to be a woman to help Hugh in finding the truth, and seeing her come into herself is heartbreaking. I love what she is willing to do for Hugh and for herself. To become someone she never thought was possible. We see quite a bit of character growth for Alf.
The Duke of Pleasure was such a joy to read, seeing charming character growth, intense filled action and intrigue, a unique family to fall in love with and a love story to charm and delight!
Have you read Elizabeth Hoyt before? What do you think of her work?
What is it about the Maiden Lane Series that you find so unique and lovely to read?
I am reading the next one at the moment ๐
oh jealous!!! I wish I had grabbed that one on NG.
I have read all the Maiden Lane series to date and it amazes me that she has consistently captivated me with her fascinating characters, engrossing plots and sensual romances. She pairs the most unlikely couples but the romance has always worked beautifully.
I do love how well she matches the most rare couples together. All of the books I have read from her have been wonderful.
So, I randomly picked up Duke of Sin (I think it was that one but I’m not sure) and apparently it was really more connected to the other books than I realized (the H was kind of a bad guy in previous books so he had a history). I couldn’t get into it, so I gave up. I have never read another Elizabeth Hoyt book ๐
I am sorry to hear that Duke of Sin didn’t work for you. I actually would recommend you try out “Raven Prince” is the first book in her Princes trilogy. Its one of my all time favorite books.
Oh good to know!!!! I will give it a shot!
Nice review! I’ve read a few in this series and need to catch up. I do love how Hoyt manages to put together a H/h that you wouldn’t think would work and it ends up being a truly wonderful match. This book sounds great! ๐
Thanks Michele. She does great with matching the most unlikely couples for sure.
I LOOOOOOOVED this book! Alf’s story was wonderful! At first I had been taken aback when I heard about this book because I thought Alf was like, a 12-year-old girl. ๐ I’m so glad you enjoyed this one, Renee!
Have a great weekend. =)
Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!
Oh yes….Alf was such a great character. In previous books, she does seem too young to be a heroine already. But I do love those “disguised as a male” tropes.
I love this series but I’m so far behind. I stopped with Duke of Midnight, so I have some catching up to do. What drew me to this series was how unique Hoyt’s characters were.
Thanks Angela. Its easy to get behind on this series, she pops these books out so quickly sometimes.
I need to read more of this series. I loved Gentle Rogue SO MUCH! SO glad you enjoyed this. Alf is such a fun character.
I am glad that you enjoyed Gentle Rogue so well. I know you will love the rest of the series, and you would get a kick out of this book.
I haven’t read her in a while. I often get behind on historical’s. I really should pick up one of her books and try her again.
Yeah I know the feeling. Sometimes I get behind on historical’s as well. *shame*
This is another author that I don’t think I have read yet. I like the sound of this once since it is a little different than the norm. I will have to look for it. Great review!
I definitely think that you would enjoy this one Carole. I would recommend reading the series in order if you are planning on picking it up.
