About The Book
Astasiya Davenport’s best friend is dead. No, not just dead–murdered. Burned alive. Decapitated. And the only one who can help her figure out what happened is a demon masquerading as a billionaire playboy.
Because that happens in real life.
Yet Astasiya has always known the supernatural exists. Not the kind in fairy tales or happily-ever-afters, but the kind that kills.
Issac Wakefield knows the rules–when you find a fledgling immortal in the city, you kill her. Except Astasiya intrigues him with her uncanny abilities, marking her as too useful for death.
With revenge on his mind, he strikes up an agreement with her instead, one that’ll benefit them both. But as complications arise, secrets unravel, initiating a lethal game that threatens both of their lives.
Loyalties will be tested.
Bonds will be made.
And a forbidden love will rise.
Welcome to the Immortal Curse world, where angels and vampires are redefined and Seraphim reign.
My Review
First Impressions
Blood Laws is the first book in the Immortal Curse series and I have been itching to try more of this author’s work since her Blood Alliance series which is much darker than the Immortal Curse series. I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this one. I bought the first book as a whim when it was even a kindle freebie and I just knew that I had to grab it, but I do believe all of her books are in KU as well. So if you have KU, then this will be available to you. Blood Laws is a story that I went completely blind into and you don’t really need much prep for this series, it’s not as dark as some of her other books, it definitely had a more paranormal romance vibe to it which I really enjoyed. The chemistry is off the charts from the very first page, so I do think it’s a story that you will be sucked into pretty quickly. The world-building is done so well and such a fascinating concept of vampires and different species with various psychic abilities and I really liked the various levels of magic that we see implemented into this one here.
Summary
Astasiya has just discovered that her best friend has been murdered and when she discovers his body is when she meets the vampire demon lord who also poses as a human billionaire playboy. He is on the cover of all the magazines, but she doesn’t know what to think of him. There is an aura of danger around him but at the same time, she knows that there is a strong connection between them and that he has a plan for her. Astasiya has always known that fairy tales and happy ever afters aren’t real. She has always known of the paranormal world, as she is unique to it and has her own share of abilities. She also saw the horrors of her parents being burned alive right in front of her. But as Issac and Astasiya go on this adventure of discovery and matching each other’s wills, there is a level of trust that is slowly built between them. Issac has his own reasons for Astasiya but he also can’t deny his feelings for her or the love that is becoming more and more present between them.
What I Loved
There were quite a few things that I quite enjoyed. I really liked the writing, but it is less polished than the Blood Alliance, but I did love seeing some of her older writing before she wrote the Blood Alliance series and how her style has changed. I also loved the chemistry. This author definitely knows how to write such well mapped out chemistry that stays consistent throughout the whole book. We also see some superb world-building and I really appreciated that it wasn’t a brain dump at the beginning. We get details of the world with each chapter and I really respected that the author was able to expound on this style and make it work so well. Both of our main characters are superb in so many ways. They both have well-matched personalities, both very strong in vario8us ways. I loved the alpha behind Issac and how devoted he is to those he loves the most. Astasiya is strong in her own right but has a sweet personality as well that is highly relatable. I also loved how well we see Astasiya struggle and persevere in her way despite her differences. She really takes everything in stride and I really respected her character and how she doesn’t become bitter or spiteful at all for her circumstances. She has a level of grace that not all authors would write and I really adored her inner core of strength.
What I Struggled With
There were a couple of things that I struggled with. There were a few plot holes and normally I don’t notice these. And the pacing was a bit off. I think this is due to the fact that these books were written before her Blood Alliance and her writing has obviously grown between these two series being written. I also wished there was more of a HEA instead of an HFN. There also seemed to be such an abrupt ending and I really wanted some more happy finality to this story especially since book two features a different couple.
Overall View
I found Blood Laws to be an astounding read that was wrapped up in a beautiful package, its contents were thrilling and epic in its romantic entanglements that are portrayed. We see a sort of ibe that is hard to forget and remarkable in its little moments of sensuality and heart-felt emotion. I will definitely be coming back for more.

With that title I thought this was going to be a vampire romance, but a demon works too. lol
Not a bad start to a series it seems.
