Book Love (65) Pride of Lions

It was a boastful wager, a bold flirtation meant to win a proposal from the most eligible officer in His Majesty’s Royal Dragoons. How was the spoiled and pampered Catherine Augustine Ashbrooke to know the handsome stranger with the brooding, midnight eyes would see through her plot and make her the pawn in a dangerous game of his own?

Alexander Cameron may have won the highborn English beauty in a duel, but not even the lure of long-forgotten desires could keep him from his meeting with destiny. He had no choice but to carry his reluctant bride off to the Highlands, to a world of ancient blood feuds and a brewing rebellion–a world where fiery passion and breathtaking courage would prove that even legendary warriors could lose their hearts

Why Pride of Lions?

Pride of Lions is not your average day historical romance, in fact out of all the historical romance novels I have read (and there are quite a bit, and it is not for everyone. This has real substance, it has no cheesiness at all, its tough and real and not for the lighthearted fans. Its emotionally driven and makes the culture and history of Scotland, come alive in a very realistic way. I love this book so much, because this author doesn’t sugar coat anything and she does her research very well.

I initially read the title as “Pride of Loins” – haha!
Anyways, I’m so curious about this book by your description. I want to know what you mean when you say it’s different from other HR!

haha there you go, that always works.

Well I read this over ten years ago and I still remember it quite vividly. The writing was deeper than most that I have read. Much more historic details, and I believe I heard the author spent quite a long time doing research for it to make it authentic. This authors writing is different than most author, I am not even sure I can describe how its so different, I remember it being a bit more complex.

OMG RENEE. You know what the first adult romance book I ever read was? Through a Dark Mist by… Marsha Canham! I was 16 years old and I had just gotten a Kindle for Christmas a few months before, and the book was free. Phew, that book was HOT! And there were so many romance tropes in it that I loved. I’ve reread that book so many times, I could quote it. I never read the rest of the books in the series or any of Canham’s other books (like this one), but I think I will. It has been six years so I think I can take Through a Dark Mist off the pedestal I’ve put it on and try something else by Canham!

Anyway. That was a little random. 😀 Lovely post, Renee! Have a great weekend. =)
