In the dark, the greatest lover can become the most dangerous conspirator…
Footsteps In The Fog
Lord Frederick Aveline, otherwise known as Derick, has successfully kept up appearances as an English nobleman. What no one knows is that he’s a full-blooded Frenchman—a double agent for the British against the French. But there is something else no one knows about Derick. Deciding to leave behind his days of espionage, he’s arrived home in Derbyshire to finish one final order of business: to find and expose a dangerous traitor in their midst.
But Aveline Castle holds its own share of secrets — including murder — and an unexpected lure in the brilliant and feisty Emma Wallingford. Emma’s loyalty lies with acting as the town’s magistrate, and she doesn’t welcome an unanticipated, though appealing, intrusion like Derick’s. As the two of them are drawn closer, the sordid past of Derick’s family comes to light, as does the true nature of his arrival. But when deception, however sweet, is the name of the game, no one can be trusted. And every love — and every life — is at risk.
Why Sweet Deception?
This was one of my favorite books to read especially when it comes to reading about strong women back in this time period. The heroine here is what really makes you fall in love with this book. There are some fun elements like espionage and a mystery that keeps you guessing. But what I have loved about this author is how she writes the women in her books. They are “scientists” of sorts, intelligent and creative. You would have to be when dealing with the restrictions on women back in this era.
I love books with strong women. This does sound like a good read and I haven’t read this author before. Thanks for putting it on my radar!
oh you definitely should check her out…so creative and well done.
Ohhh her heroines sound like my kind of girls!
They Are!! All three in this trilogy are fantastic. All scientists of some sort. So it was pretty neat to see how they dealt with that and the restrictions and little rights women had back then.
Love your book love post. That is the best when the heroine makes me love a book. Usually it is the hero I first fall in love with. On the rare occasion I get the heroine who makes the book.
Love this cover and how you described the heroine! Great pick!
Oh I remember seeing these and loving the science connection. Great cover, too. I need to hunt down the copy I have of book one.
