About The Book

From the beloved bestselling author of Season of Wonder and The Cliff House  comes a poignant and uplifting novel about forgiveness, family and all the complications—and joy  that come with it

As the older sibling to identical twins Violet and Lily, Cami Porter was always the odd sister out. The divide grew even wider when their parents split up—while the twins stayed in Cape Sanctuary with their free-spirited mother, Rosemary, fourteen-year-old Cami moved to LA with her attorney father. Nearly twenty years later, when Cami gets the terrible news that Lily has drowned saving a child’s life, her mother begs her to return home to help untangle the complicated estate issues her sister left behind.

Navigating their own strained relationship, Cami readjusts to the family and community she hasn’t known for decades, including the neighbor who stands in the way of her late sister’s dream, while Violet grieves the loss of her twin and struggles to figure out who she is now, without her other half, as the little girl Lily saved pulls her back into the orbit of the man she once loved.

With poignancy and heart, RaeAnne Thayne once again delivers her charming signature blend of warmth, wit and wisdom.

My Review

First Impressions

Summer At The Cape is a standalone romance that is the perfect beach read. I absolutely adored this book and it delivered in all of the summer vibes that you can feel from this cover. And the cover is the perfect representation of her story. There is something so majestic in her atmospheric reads and Summer at the Cape is no different. I really adored this light and warm romance that was the perfect palette cleanser and I listened to the audiobook in less than two days. That Is how much I was into this one here. I also really enjoyed the way that this book capitalized on endearing characters and subtle intimacy that brings about such a balanced read. There is an added focus on character growth that is believable and as the reader, you want to cheer on all the characters that become involved.

Summary

We have the two siblings of the Porter clan, Cami and Violet. Cami is the oldest of the sisters, she is the bookish and intelligent one. She is a lawyer and just like her father just as cunning and smart in and out of the courtroom. But when her sister is killed in a tragic ocean accident trying to save two little girls, she goes back to Cape Sanctuary to help with her mother and her other living sister Violet. Violet and Lily were twins and they had a closeness to each other, and now Violet is lost having lost her sister. Violet comes back home and is reunited with her high school sweetheart and the man who broke her heart. Cami is a strong independent woman, but when she helps a man on the road, she never imagined the same man she would be on the opposite ends of a territory fight. As Cami and Violet maneuver through their recovery and learning to grieve their sister, they also find some romance among the sand and the stars.

What I Loved

This book had me in all of my feels and I absolutely adored everything about it. RaeAnne Thayne is one of those authors that will always have me in my feelings and evoke such warm emotions every single time. Summer at the Cape was a delicious read and I really enjoyed seeing the two sisters go on a road of self-discovery while at the same time discovering love and romance along the way. All the characters involved were so much fun. I really enjoyed seeing the sisters reconnect and rebuilt their sisterly relationship. Then we also have the way that they find their place at Cape Sanctuary. Cami is the sister I related with the most. She is the oddball of the siblings and man I related to this so well. (Similar dynamic growing up in my family) so I really connected with her character. Her romance is delicious with a mix of angst. But it’s soft angst. She is fighting for her sister’s business and she gets entangled with John who has come back home to take care of his father who is suffering from dementia. Both are doing what they can to protect the ones they love and their interests, there is kind respect between them but also a fun competition at the same time. Then on the other end, we have Violet, who had her heartbroken. I really enjoyed seeing Violet come to terms with her sister’s death and learn to fight for the man she loved and not let fear get in her way of something beautiful with him.

What I Struggled With

There wasn’t much that I struggled with. I became a bit frustrated with the mother at times, and Violet wasn’t my favorite at times. I didn’t understand why she was so resistant to rekindling her romance but once she got over her fears, she became redeemed for me.

The Narration

Absolutely adored this narrator, she really will pull you quickly into the story and also adds the level of the atmosphere that is so well displayed within the story.

Overall View

Summer at the Cape is a vibrant and witty romance that will curl your toes and make you eager for sunshine, sand, and surf. Its atmosphere setting, relatable characters, and endearing romantic elements will captivate you immediately and make you yearn for more!

Steamin’ up the room -the sexual content is more explicit in the language and tone, heavier amount of sexual scenes.

Blazing fire to the building-The prime focus is the sex scenes, scorching hot, and could burn one. Less focus on the emotional intimacy to the relationship.

About The Author

I’m not one of those people who knew from birth she was destined to become a writer. I always loved to read and throughout my childhood I could usually be found with a book in my hands. To the disgust of my friends, I even enjoyed creative writing assignments that made them all groan. But I had other dreams besides writing. I wanted to be an actress or a teacher or a lawyer.

Life took a different turn for me, though, when my mother made me take a journalism elective in high school (thanks, Mom!). I knew the first day that this was where I belonged.

After I graduated from college in journalism, I took a job at the local daily newspaper and I reveled in the challenge and the diversity of it. One day I could be interviewing the latest country music star, the next day I was writing about local motorcycle gangs or interviewing an award-winning scientist.

Through it all — through the natural progression of my career from reporter to editor — I wrote stories in my head. Not just any stories, either, but romances, the kind of books I have devoured since junior high school, with tales about real people going through the trials and tribulations of life until they find deep and lasting love.

I had no idea how to put these people on paper, but knew I had to try — their stories were too compelling for me to ignore. I sold my first book in 1995 and now, more than 30 books later, I’ve come to love everything about writing, from the click of the computer keys under my fingers to the “that’s-it!” feeling I get when a story is flowing.

I write full-time now (well, as full-time as I can manage juggling my kids!) amid the raw beauty of the northern Utah mountains.

Even though I might not have dreamed of being a writer when I was younger, now I simply can’t imagine my life any other way.
