Enigmatic and sexy, Professor Gabriel Emerson is a well respected Dante specialist by day, but by night he devotes himself to an uninhibited life of pleasure. He uses his notorious good looks and sophisticated charm to gratify his every whim, but is secretly tortured by his dark past and consumed by the profound belief that he is beyond all hope of redemption.
When the sweet and innocent Julia Mitchell enrolls as his graduate student, his attraction and mysterious connection to her not only jeopardizes his career, but sends him on a journey in which his past and his present collide.
An intriguing and sinful exploration of seduction, forbidden love and redemption, "Gabriel's Inferno" is a captivating and wildly passionate tale of one man's escape from his own personal hell as he tries to earn the impossible...forgiveness and love.

Gabriels’ Inferno is a International Bestseller and I know I know I am SO late to the game in reading this one but quite frankly I really didn’t know if this book was for me to be honest especially with the complex situation of a “Teacher/Student” trope that we have here and it wasn’t until I braved and watched the Part One of the Movie through Passionflix that I wanted to truly read this one. As you know Passionflix really has done honor to these books that they adapt into movies as their goal is to stay true to the book and I really admire that from them. First I will do a review of the book and then my thoughts on the movie overall.

THE BOOK

This story is truly such a beautiful one, its intense, magnetic and stunning in its portrayal. But its definitely one that will push your buttons at times. The hero especially is quite honestly a brute at times. I love him to pieces BUT he has some flaws that aren’t easy to overlook at times and its these flaws that many readers have struggled with from the reviews that I have read. Now I tend to stay objective if I need to in my reading, so I suspected there was so much more to Gabriel than meets the eye. This is a second chance love though. So even though Gabriel is the professor at a University and our heroine, Julia, is a student …this is not the first time they have met. They once had a short and bittersweet love affair, that ended in misunderstanding. Both of them have felt the pain of that misunderstanding and both of them have gone through their own sort of trauma of a kind. And its this kind of adversity that they have both faced that has them building walls to protect themselves. But now they are reunited and that reunion is definitely not simple and easy especially with the extra barrier of how forbidden their relationship is. What I did come to appreciate in this story was the slow development in them rekindling their passion and love. And this book is LONG—like KA type of long. So there is much that happens plot wise, but I really admired this author’s take on this couple and by the end I just wanted to pick up book two (which is waiting for me on my kindle) My only complaint is the price of the ebook—all I will say is I will never understand publishers in having such overreaching prices of ebooks.

THE MOVIE

Passionflix did such a tremendous job with this, now what they have currently is just part one. And below I will share the trailer for Part one and Part Two which are very well done in my book. I do know that Part two of the story will be coming out at the end of this month so that is really exciting. And I think Passionflix has plans to do most of the books, so it should be fun to see how they build this series and this couple.

The Part One of the story was a movie I quickly fell in love with and even though I hadn’t read the book first, (although now I am wishing I had) I was really impressed to see how they handled the chemistry between these two. Even from the get go I could tell how complex their connection is and that says so much from this talent of the actors and the production that brought this story to life. And yeah this movie will have three parts in the end but then the book is over 500 pages and they are really staying true to the story so I do admire that. I like that they didn’t take shortcuts on the story.

Overall I found both the book and the movie captivating and I am eager to continue on with the journey of Gabriel and Julia.

About Sylvain Reynard

"Gabriel's Inferno" was a Semifinalist for Best Romance in 2011 and "Gabriel's Rapture" was a Finalist for Best Romance in 2012, in the Goodreads Choice Awards, as well. The final novel in The Gabriel Series, "Gabriel's Redemption," debuted at #6 on the New York Times Bestseller list. It was a Finalist for a 2014 Goodreads Choice Award as Best Romance.

I'm interested in the way literature can help us explore aspects of the human condition - particularly suffering, sex, love, faith, and redemption. My favourite stories are those in which a character takes a journey, either a physical journey to a new and exciting place, or a personal journey in which he or she learns something about himself/herself.

I'm also interested in how aesthetic elements such as art, architecture, food, drink, and music can be used to tell a story or to illuminate the traits of a particular character. In my writing, I combine all of these elements with the themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the transformative power of goodness.
