The New York Times bestselling authors of the Masters of Ménage series present the third scintillating novel featuring the privileged, wealthy, wild men of Creighton Academy—the Perfect Gentlemen.
Years ago, Naval officer Dax Spencer and NCIS agent Holland Kirk indulged in a steamy affair—until she betrayed him in the wake of his father’s death. Dax tried to put her behind him with a payback of his own. But he never forgot Holland…
Now, as Dax and his fellow Perfect Gentlemen unravel a web of lies, he discovers his family’s tragedy is part of a much larger conspiracy. Soon, all clues point him back to New Orleans…where Holland waits, protecting her deadly secret and holding a torch for the only man she’s ever loved.
Once reunited, they can’t fight the passion flaring hot and wild. But something sinister lurks around every corner, from the elegance of the Garden district to the beauty of the bayou. Dax and Holland may find their way back to each other—if they survive...
Big Easy Temptation is the third book in the Perfect Gentlemen series and I will admit this is probably the third time I picked it up. The first two I tried and couldn’t get into it, I just wasn’t in the mood for it especially with the whole betrayal and this type of second chance that I tend to struggle with at times with. But I finally was in the right mood because you know what they say third time the charm? Well its true. I really had such a blast with this book and more intrigues and mystery revealed in the plot of the series as a whole.
In Big Easy Temptation we get our military man of the group….Dax Spencer. Dax has devoted his life to the Navy and has lived for the military but most of all “family” his father especially is his heart. And when a scandal breaks out surrounding his father and then his father is claimed dead from suicide Dax knows its not true and wants a deeper investigation. So he goes to the only person he knows that will bring justice for his father….Holland Kirk who is a NCIS agent. At first Holland has doubts, but the more Dax reveals to her the more she knows that something more must be going on. But then when something more happens and Holland betrays Dax or at least he thinks she does. Now Dax is returned ….he wants the truth and he wants answers and won’t stop until he has conquered her fears and her heart…
“I’m willing to take the chance. I know you won’t believe me, but I like you. Really like you. I enjoy talking to you, being around you, hearing you laugh. I’m not looking for a one-night stand or some easy hookup. I’m pretty sure I’m looking for something more.”
Big Easy Temptation was such a whirlwind and I adored every minute of it. I will be honest I am not a big fan of flashbacks, they just aren’t something I click with. At least it wasn’t a back and forth every chapter type of flashback. Half the book was their past history and then the last half was their present. So I didn’t mind that so much and it did offer so much more depth to them. And I really appreciated what these duo authors actually worked here. The plot for this series really escalates in this book and we get so many answers to our questions but also we get unsolved questions that hopefully will be answered in the next book. We see such close bonds between these men and I love how loyal they are to each other. I will admit when they are reunited in the end in the white house….it was so sweet I wanted to cry. I love how much they understand each other and will fight for each other.
Everyone looks at marriage like it’s the prize to be had. It should be the inevitable outcome of the real prize.” “Being in love?” “Loving a woman so much that I know I won’t ever want another one the way I want her. Knowing she completes me in some inexplicable way and I do the same for her. Marriage, children, the house in the suburbs, they don’t mean a damn thing without that foundation.”
The romance that is built between Dax and Holland is one that isn’t easy for either one of them. But its a romance that is going to have its mountains to climb. Dax and Holland have a passionate love for each other, but Holland has to make a sacrifice to save Dax and that will cost her everything. What I liked was seeing both sides to this relationship and seeing how much they each sacrifice to the relationship. I would have liked Holland to be as much of a fighter for the relationship as Dax was. She fought for Dax but not as much for their relationship as he was willing to do. We definitely have some fun dynamics all the way through the book and such an intriguing mystery surrounding Dax’s fathers death and the on going threat to all of them.
“I’ve always wanted you. No one has ever made me feel the way you do, Dax. In bed. Out of bed. Good and bad. It’s always you.”
Overall I found Big Easy Temptation to be a stunning portrayal of abiding sacrifice, dynamic relationships, depths of intrigue and a unique outlook on love….
