In a time he doesn’t belong, in an alliance she shouldn’t have made, they’ll fall dangerously, hopelessly in love.
New Orleans, 2020. Billionaire Rhys McCaim doesn’t believe for one second that his missing mother is a time traveler. Still, his father insists that she didn’t leave them willingly but was pulled through time to her true home in medieval Scotland. But when he and his three brothers test out an ancient time-traveling spell to appease their dying father and Rhys is catapulted to thirteenth-century Scotland, he can’t exactly deny it anymore. Suddenly he’s a Highlander in a land on the verge of war. He needs to get back to his time before all hell breaks loose, but first he must find his mother. Luckily, fate drops the perfect guide in his path. She’s brilliant, beautiful and bold, and he’s drawn to her in a way he’s never been drawn to anyone or anything before. But he can’t afford to be distracted from his mission or lower his carefully constructed guard.
Scotland, 1286. Maggie Irvine is betrothed to a vicious man who cares only of wealth and power. Marrying him will restore her family’s reputation, however, saving her siblings from lives of misery. She has resigned herself to her fate, but when a mysterious, handsome stranger magically appears before her out of thin air, her plan—and the stranger’s life—are in jeopardy. And the only way to save him is to risk everything. As she comes to learn the shocking truth of what he hides, Maggie discovers what happens when duty collides with desire and long-abandoned dreams rise to the surface.
Bound by secrets and lies, Maggie and Rhys are entangled in the brewing battle for the Scottish throne. With his knowledge of the future, Rhys possesses the powerful ability to alter history. Yet, to do so successfully, he must let Maggie past the defenses he’s spent a lifetime building. Now, an alliance that began in desperation becomes a need that will leave them both torn between what they should do and what love demands.
If you love sexy bad boy heroes with hearts of gold, heroines with the courage to fight for what they want, and love stories that encompass all time, then you’ll love this sweeping romance series.
This review may contain spoilers, so fair warning, upon reading the review.
It has been quite a long time since I read a time travel romance, but this pair writing team “Julie Johnstone” and “Cecelia Mecca” did a tremendous job with this book and I was swept so quickly in this book. I have to be honest I think what drew me to these books were the covers and when I saw it on KU I just grabbed it. And I wasn’t originally planning on reading it so quickly, but from the first page I was drawn into the story and I just had to stick with it.
Sinful Scot is featuring four brothers who are struggling, their mother who was sick for a long time suddenly disappeared and their father started raving about finding her and that she was from another time. Rhys and his brothers thinking their father was going crazy over the loss of their mother’s disappearance took his company away but when his health is failing and knowing that what he needs to live is their mother. Rhys and his brother go to their father’s home to find some clues and before they realize it they start believing the time travel tales and that it could be real. And when they chant a spell in gaelic …..Rhys is tossed back through time and runs into the beautiful Maggie in year 1286, but through some mistaken reasoning his life is put in danger due to Maggie’s complicated betrothal and as they search for the location of his mother and on the run from the danger that pursues them….a love builds between them.
Sinful Scot was a fabulous beginning to a great series. I really liked seeing how the very beginning of the book we get an insight into the mother. At first you think its the heroine but its not. We see her go forward in time when danger is chasing her and this danger is connected to Maggie’s siblings. As the reader you get so wrapped in the romance and the mysterious intrigue that builds within the plot. I was so fascinated to see where this author team was going with this theme and I was captivated by it all.
Little spoiler in this one though….we don’t get to see the mother and father reunited…yet. I did love seeing mother and son find each other and such a sweet reunion. Hopefully we will get more clues in the next book and seeing the family be together again
Overall I found Sinful Scot to be a quick and fast paced story that takes us to medieval Scotland, a story packed with adventure, passion and family bonds that will tug at your heartstrings.
