A Courtship of Convenience
Sophie Appersett is quite willing to marry outside of her class to ensure the survival of her family. But the darkly handsome Mr. Edward Sharpe is no run-of-the-mill London merchant. He’s grim and silent. A man of little emotion—or perhaps no emotion at all. After two months of courtship, she’s ready to put an end to things.
A Last Chance for Love
But severing ties with her taciturn suitor isn’t as straightforward as Sophie envisioned. Her parents are outraged. And then there’s Charles Darwin, Prince Albert, and that dratted gaslight. What’s a girl to do except invite Mr. Sharpe to Appersett House for Christmas and give him one last chance to win her? Only this time there’ll be no false formality. This time they’ll get to know each other for who they really are.
This was such a short and sweet romance and I was all on board for this book and boy the Christmas traditions that came into play here were just short of perfection. I got such a kick out of this author and how she portrayed the setting here and she did such a job well done especially for a novella. Probably one of the best novellas I have read in a while to be honest. This story begins with our heroine and hero, who have been courting for a couple of months. But because of their class differences, the hero has been polite and courtly but not real with the heroine so she breaks it off not thinking he is truly interested, which is far from the truth. When she gets a feeling she needs to straighten it out with him, real honesty comes into play between them and their relationship begins to blossom between them. We get other conflicts, a romance between her sister and his business partner, financial drama with her father and much more. This story was charming, sweet and so endearing I couldn’t get enough. So if you love holiday/Christmas themed romances, this is definitely a book to grab up. It is available on Audible Escape if you have a subscription (which you should get in audio if you can, the narrator was fabulous)
