A simple promise to protect her friend’s infant son has turned Allie Chambers’ existence upside down. Caring for—and feeding—an orphaned vampire baby has been tricky enough. But as little Liam grows, so does his appetite. He needs more blood than she can personally supply. And when her attempts to steal from a blood bank go awry, Allie wakes up surrounded by doctors, cops…and the gorgeous, mesmerizing Magnus, who she can neither trust nor resist.
Magnus never expected to find his life mate breaking into a blood bank. Clearly, Allie is already entwined with his world—in deeper, more dangerous ways than she realizes. A band of vicious rogue immortals is in pursuit, and Magnus’ first task is to keep her safe. His second: to awaken her to mind-blowing pleasure, and hope she’ll accept the life, and the passion, that only he can offer.
Immortal Born is the newest installment of the Argeneau series and its book #30 and I can hardly believe how big this series has grown over the years and even though I wouldn’t say that Immortal Born is my favorite of the series, I had such a fun time in reading this one here. It’s a bit different for sure, and I am please with this author in how she is able to develop this series in the way that she has and giving some new set ups that she hasn’t ever done before.
Immortal Born is a story that starts off with a prologue (must read this, I know that not all reader like reading this but its pretty essential to the story) where we see the beginning of Allie and Liam. Allie Chambers made friends with a young woman “Stella” who had a infant son but then one evening Stella came to Allie to take her son and Stella was then killed in a house fire. But there were evil men after Allie, and her life has been turned upside down protecting Liam who she considers her son. But the rogues keep finding them and then she is rescued by a group of Immortals who have been hunting these rogues, but there is one Immortal that she is drawn to more than the others…Magnus.
Magnus has lived for many centuries and never hoped for a life mate but was pleased to find Allie but now his life mate is in danger along with her son Liam. But there is a enemy out there gunning for Allie and wanting to take Liam to mold into something evil and Magnus will do whatever it takes to keep that from happening. With the aid of other Immortals, Allie is brought into the fold and their enemy is stronger than ever and Magnus wonders if he can protect those he loves from such evil….
Immortal Born is a catchy title but is really true in how it portrays the story that is proved in depths here. I did have a fun time with this story, and Lynsay Sands truly knows how to work a story in all the best ways. This was a bit different in that we have a mortal heroine who is taking care of a immortal child and only knows a little bit of Immortals, and has no idea what is ahead of her. There was such edgy thrills that delivers this book with such a punch and you really are on the edge from beginning to end.
The romance between these two is what I truly struggled with, it felt almost forced and I just didn’t feel the chemistry between these two here. I would have liked too for sure, but it just wasn’t there in the way that I was hoping for. It almost felt like an arranged marriage feel to the story and you don’t really feel much emotion until the very end so it was lackluster in the ways that I really look forward to in a romance. A solid story overall but a bit disappointing in other areas.
Overall I found Immortal Born to be a story filled with thrills, adventure, spicy sexiness and the writing as enthralling as ever
