Sadie Townsend is known by all as The Ice Princess and she’s worked hard to earn her reputation. Her father, a now-incarcerated Drug Lord, has kept her under his thumb her whole life and she’s learned enough from living in his world to give everyone the cold shoulder. But one inebriated night, she shows the Real Sadie to the undercover agent she knows is investigating her father, the handsome Hector Chavez, and he knows he’ll stop at nothing to have her.
Hector makes one (huge) mistake; he waits for Sadie to come to him. Tragedy strikes and Sadie’s got a choice, she can retreat behind her Ice Fortress or she can embrace the Rock Chick/Hot Bunch World. Guided by Hector, the Rock Chicks, the Hot Bunch and her new gay roommates, Buddy and Ralphie, Sadie negotiates a life out from under her father’s thumb, a life that includes poison, arson and learning how to make s’mores.
Rock Chick Regret is book number seven in the Rock Chick series and boy I am loving each and every book I have read so far, there is something so different about these books even from her other books that I have loved. And after wishing for Hector’s book, we finally get it. Hector is a character that I have seen and have wanted his story so badly, ever since we are first introduced to him at the beginning of the series. Hector is a bit of a wild man, and very unpredictable and not someone that everyone trusts but he has his own secrets.
Sadie Townsend is the daughter of a crime lord, but is more innocent than anyone else realizes but she has had to protect herself by being a Ice Queen. By keeping her emotions and her true self protected beneath the Ice that she portrays on the surface and only a few people have seen the real Sadie. She has hardly any friends and is spurned because of her father. But she secretly worked with Hector to bring down her father who is now in prison but now she is being targeted by four brothers who took over her father’s territory. When she goes to Lee Nightingale and Hector for help in bodyguard protection, she is denied. And that night she is beaten and raped by one of the brothers trying to get her to marry them so they can have unconditional loyalty. And this is where Hector steps in.
Hector has only seen the real Sadie once, but he is determined to find the real Sadie and to save her. He is furious when he finds out that she has been so brutally attacked and refuses to leave her side. This is where the Rock Chick group and the alpha caveman group join forces in protecting Sadie and proving to her that they will show her true friendship and acceptance. But Sadie is hesitant to believe that its genuine. She was spurned when she first came into the Nightingale office by both the men there and some of the Rock Chick gang, and she has learned to mistrust everyone due to how she was raised. But Hector is out to prove to her that they have something real and its worth fighting for.
Rock Chick Regret I was anxiously waiting on from my library and after waiting on it for a couple of week I finally received it and I am so happy with this book. Hector and Sadie’s book was everything that I was hoping for and more. Rock Chick Regret is an emotionally driven romance and boy this book KILLED me in some ways. My heart just went out to Sadie, for the most part, this story is told in Sadie’s POV so you really get inside her head and understand why she does what she does. But its heartbreaking that at first, she is judged so harshly just because of who her father is and at first they refuse to even speak a kind word to her and so after we see the aftermath of her attack, I really felt like the Rock Chick gang deserved the guilt they felt especially when we see how they treat her in the beginning.
“No really,” I whispered, letting the sweet, peaceful feeling steal over me. “It only matters if there’s someone to care if you don’t wake up. It’s okay if I don’t wake up because there’s no one to care.”
This is where you just want to cheer on Sadie, for not being fully open to their interest at first, but I really liked seeing the ice that she uses to protect herself warms up and Hector is a big part of the reason. Hector is very determined and doesn’t let the Ice Queen bother him, in fact it’s hilarious when he finds that side of her so amusing. I really was drawn to this couple, because they do have a past together and even though Sadie was a horrid spy on her father, Hector was able to use some of it to get her father in prison. Sadie loves her father but at the same time, she knows that he has committed horrible acts. Sadie is good at the heart and soul, she has such purity about her. She has grown up in a world of crime but she hasn’t allowed it to touch her and even though she has plenty of money, she started an Art Gallery with a gay couple (who are fabulous by the way and her only true friends that she has in the beginning of the story) because she loved art and wanted to do something productive in her life. But money doesn’t buy friendships or true love and love and affection is something she has craved since her mother disappeared when she was younger.
“And you think you can help me find my way?”
He shook his head, his eyes went warm and I got another neck squeeze, coupled with a tightening of his arm around my waist. “Mamita, only you can find your way. I just wanna be along for the ride.”
The romance that develops between Hector and Sadie is so beautifully well written, and I was on board with these two. They both know the horrible world of crime syndicates and neighborhoods but they both see the good in people too. Seeing these two truly bond after the painful past they have together is truly remarkable. I adored seeing these two truly come together where it matters. And face the dangers ahead of them and yes the suspense that develop in this plot that was truly mind-blowing and I adore how KA has implemented it into this story.
Overall I found Rock Chick Regret to be a winner of the series and one of my favorites that I have read so far, an endearing and gripping romance to leave you fully satisfied!!
