He's a player in more ways than one…
College junior John Logan can get any girl he wants. For this hockey star, life is a parade of parties and hookups, but behind his killer grins and easygoing charm, he hides growing despair about the dead-end road he'll be forced to walk after graduation. A sexy encounter with freshman Grace Ivers is just the distraction he needs, but when a thoughtless mistake pushes her away, Logan plans to spend his final year proving to her that he's worth a second chance.
Now he's going to need to up his game…
After a less than stellar freshman year, Grace is back at Briar University, older, wiser, and so over the arrogant hockey player she nearly handed her V-card to. She's not a charity case, and she's not the quiet butterfly she was when they first hooked up. If Logan expects her to roll over and beg like all his other puck bunnies, he can think again. He wants her back? He'll have to work for it. This time around, she'll be the one in the driver's seat, and she plans on driving him wild.
The Mistake is a whirlwind of a college romance that brings together a sexy hockey player and a shy and socially awkward heroine who heat it up…..
The Mistake was a book that for some reason I kept forgetting about. I think the blurb kinda just put me off for a while, but I just been in the mood for this story and after doing some re-reading this past week of The Deal and the Score, I was in the mood for Logan and Grace’s book especially in seeing them in later books. I knew I needed to see some fun groveling from this hero who has it way too easy when it comes to girls and in The Mistake, we see how hard he is forced to work for the girl he really wants…..
The key players that provoke feeling in The Mistake are:
- John Logan, junior star hockey player, has a nice college life, but different family life that offers a depth you don’t expect
- Grace Iver, college freshman, a bit socially awkward, tends to babble when she is nervous and a virgin.
I really honestly wasn’t sure at first what I would think of The Mistake but (no surprise) that I fell for Logan and Grace’s story. I really do love virgin romances, I adore seeing a heroine that doesn’t view sex casually, which too many heroines in new adult romance do, so seeing Grace’s personality really pulled me in because I can relate with her in so many ways. I love how she babbles, its so hilarious and endearing. She is very intelligent and even though she is a pretty happy person, she doesn’t feel comfortable at parties. She prefers to dress comfortably over skimpy to attract a man. We see Grace deal with some emotional challenges such as the way her best friend treats her which I didn’t like. Grace is a people pleaser, she avoids confrontation if she can but we see her growth in this book. Then she meets up with Logan, who mistakenly comes to her door, they watch a movie and make out a bit. Logan is intrigued by Grace because she is unlike any girl he has ever been with. And even though he is dealing with the fact that he can’t go pro due to certain family responsibilities, he hurts Grace and now he will have to prove to Grace how genuine he is about his feelings for her. And boy seeing the creative ways he goes about getting back in her good “graces” was simply hilarious. He does get pretty creative.
The idea of Grace with another guy is unacceptable. I won’t go as far as to say she’s mine, but…well, she’s mine. Mine to hold and mine to kiss and mine to laugh with. Yup, mine
Grace changes through this course of their relationship, I like seeing her more confident and sure of herself, standing on her own and not letting anyone run over her, including her best friend. And Grace is so supportive of Logan’s family situation and I really admired that. We see some interesting dynamics that Logan deals with. And I found it interesting seeing this “bad boy” have more to him than meets the eye. And this is what Elle Kennedy really excels at writing, making you fall for these playboy heroes that you just fall head over heels in love with easily…..
Belonging. It’s the only way to describe the exquisite rush of sensation that washes over me. His lips BELONG on mine.
The Mistake is a sensational story that I couldn’t help but admire the writing talent that proves to be a vibrant and emotionally evoking story…..a new adult romance that is a keeper!!
I have put this book off forever. I just wasn’t sold on it. I like virgin heroines but for some reason, I have dodged this book. Maybe I need to give it a shot! Great review!
Yeah I feel ya, I held off for the same reasons but I am glad I gave this one a shot and I think you would enjoy this one especially if you enjoyed the other books in the Off Campus series.
I haven’t picked up much New Adult romance for a while, but I’m willing to give this series a try. I do like that people are serious about certain things even at younger ages b/c that resonates with who I was when I was this age. I like that there’s more too him and its a family commitment and that she can respect that just like she chooses to make him work so he’ll respect her.
I really had a great time with this one as well!
I guess I need to try one by her then, BUT, NA…still do not get it
Great review! Elle Kennedy is such a solid writer. I haven’t checked this series out yet but it sounds like she’s keeping up with a certain theme: heroes who get humbled in some way and heroines who find their own voice. Love that!
Yes, I agree with everything in your lovely review. This is a great new adult romance and I love Logan and Grace!
