Two strangers—one warm and human, the other deadly and craving—become pawns in an all-out vampire war as this series from the New York Times bestselling author of the Nightwalkers saga heats up.

As an energy vampire, Halo enjoys the chase for human blood—if it’s pure and consensual. But Halo goes from hunter to hunted when he is knocked unconscious and taken hostage by vicious sycophants. As he comes to, he realizes that he’s naked, starving, and trapped in a sealed room. With him is a deliciously human female, tempting him to feed—except her blood is heady with the scent of poisonous drugs. Never has nourishment been so near, yet so far . . . and it’s all part of the sycophants’ sick game.

The last thing Felice Mendoza remembers is everything going black. She awakens stripped, drugged, exposed, and alone—with a vampire. Halo is at once savage and tender, terrifying and alluring. Felice senses that her only chance to escape depends upon his survival. Given the choice between Halo and his enemies, Felice surrenders to his ravenous hunger. It’s a calculated risk—and a delirious pleasure. As Felice is ushered into a world as dangerous as it is desirable, their fight for deliverance is only the beginning.

  • Hunger is the second book in the newest vampire series by Frank. Now every book I  have read from this author has been pretty wonderful, and Hunger was no different, I absolutely fell in love with this book and these “Energy vampires”. In Hunger we have a story where both our hero and our heroine wake up having been drugged, kidnapped and naked and forced in the same room together. Halo, our hero of the story, is one of the strongest of their kind. He is an energy vampire, he is trapped in a room with a beautiful and spirited human female whose blood has been tainted and is forbidden for him and he has two choices: Find a way to escape and figure out why he has been taken prisoner or feed on Felice and break one of the most supreme laws of their people. Halo is a man of honor, he may enjoy feeding, but he also upholds the laws of their people. Halo finds that he is drawn to Felice. There is something unique about her, and he needs to figure out why she was picked to be stuck in a room with him. Little chance that its just coincidence. Felice has no clue about energy vampires, but she soon learns of their world and Halo’s place in it. Felice has had to deal with a stalker ex boyfriend, move to a new state and make a new life for herself and now she is drawn into a world of the supernatural and where there is danger around the corner.

Hunger was a fabulous story that I didn’t want to set aside, I was drawn to these characters and seeing the way they fight their way out of their predicament and the interesting way they end up falling for each other. Halo and Felice are from two different worlds. Felice is a young woman that is a fighter, but she doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. She is philosophical at times, she looks at life with a “glass half full”, she tends to be a positive thinker. Where our hero is a badass fighter, bad boy to the extreme, one of the strongest and most elite of his kind and doesn’t have serious relationships with women, especially not intimate ones. I found the dynamics of their relationship fascinating. Seeing how different they are from each other, and the way they balance each other out. I just loved that, while I was reading this story, the whole Chinese term “yin-yang” kept running through my mind. Because Halo and Felice definitely fit the bill for that. They are so different in so many ways, but they also compliment each other in the right ways.

This world that Jacquelyn Frank has created swept me up pretty quickly in the story, and I was so intrigued by this idea of Energy Vampires. Basically these type of vampires feed off the energy of humans, but only humans that are sweet and clean and healthy. It was a bit different from the regular vampire idea, but still very close to the idea. Only there is no holy water, no mirrors or any myths like that. So I found the world building in this story quite refreshing for a vampire read. I always love it when an author gets a bit creative but still stays true a bit to the actual myths. And I wasn’t surprised with how this author handled this story and the world building that takes place. She does like to write those unique paranormal romances that keeps you on edge and she definitely succeeded. Now I know that I need to go pick up Thirst (the first book) because I was so intrigued by Rafe and need to read his book.

Overall Hunger is a romance that you don’t want to miss out on if you love plenty of danger, intrigue, a sexy vampire, a fighting heroine and a love story that wins your heart!

    • Halo sounds like my kinda sexy vampire! I need to add this one for sure. Great review.

    • Oh those vamps

    • I remember seeing the first book on NetGalley a while back and was really tempted by it but didn’t grab it for some reason. I love all things vampires so I may need to check this out at some point.

Oh, this sounds really interesting! I’m glad to hear she hasn’t lost her ability to build unique worlds with this newest series. And I love it when couples balance each other other personality-wise. Nice review!

    • This sounds good. I had to add book one to my wishlist.

    • This one sounds like a great read! And the concept of energy vampires sounds a bit different from most books. I like how these two characters sound very different, I usually like the opposites attract type of romances. Those opposites type of characters always seem to balance each other very well and it sounds like the relationships dynamics here are well done. Great review!

I’m a vampire fan, and even though I haven’t read paranormal in quite some time, I really enjoy Frank’s stories, and have a few of her novels on my bookcase. I need to definitely add her back to my pile. Hugs…RO
