This new historical romance from May McGoldrick pits one spirited lass against her biggest challenge yet: a Highland lord who has no desire to lose his heart.
Innes Munro has the ability to "read" a person’s past simply by touching them, but her gift comes with a heavy price: her freedom. Forced to stay at desolate Castle Girnigoe, Innes never expects to be drawn to the wounded warrior who haunts its dark passages and challenges her at every turn.
Conall Sinclair, the earl of Caithness, carries the scars of battles with the English and the lash marks of their dungeons, but the wounds that fester within give him even greater pain. Isolating himself from his clan and the rest of the world in a tower perched on the wild Scottish coast, Conall is reluctant to let the spirited Innes close to him, however neither can deny the growing passion that ignites with every look, every touch.
But can Conall ever love a woman who can read his darkest secrets and feel the pain he hides... and can love really tame all fears? As dangerous forces close in, Conall and Innes must take the ultimate leap of faith and forge a bond of trust that will save them both...or lose each other forever.

My Review UpdatedSummary

Innes Munroe, is “gifted” ever since she was a girl, and touched a family stone and she can feel and hear others thoughts and feelings when touching them. Only a couple of people in the world know of her gifts, because she knows if the truth were to ever come out she would be branded a “witch”. When her sister gets married, she travels for the wedding. She runs into a man that she can’t resist….Conall Sinclair. A war hero who has his own scars. Conall is the Earl of Caithness and he is content with his “wolf pup” and his solitude. But he can’t seem to get the beautiful Innes out of his mind. She is a mystery to him, one that he wants to unravel more than anything. But he soon learns that she will be the one woman to heal the wounds of the past and give him hope once again…

Plot and Story Line

Taming The Highlander, is the second book in the latest series by May McGoldrick. Now its been a while since I have picked this author up, but I have such fond memories of this author, since she was one of the first romance authors I fell in love with and she was the first author I read with highlanders and I just can’t get enough of those kilted men now. I had heard quite a few good things about this series, so I knew I had to get it and was granted a ARC copy and so thrilled for the opportunity. Now just opening this book up with the first few chapters reminded me why I fell in love with this author in the first place. She knows how to write highland romances, and I love the mythical tones to this story. The romance between these two is what really got to me here. I just loved seeing them together and seeing the way they slowly fall in love. Its more of a slow and steady romance. I loved the Wolf…he was so cute. He is still a puppy but still tame and he just takes to Innes immediately. He added some fun to the story. There is a more serious tone to the plot though. Innes is living a secret and Conall is a bit of a recluse. We have a bit of matchmaking by Conall’s brother and Innes sister acting like their marriage is falling apart—when there are obvious hints that its not true with them sneaking into each others bedrooms at night hehe Then we have a mysterious death that gets solved which surprised me on the real truth behind it. We also see how this series connects with seeing the couple from the first book becoming involved in this one. There is such a sweet and poignant feel to this story with some rich undertones of history and culture that doesn’t overshadow the romance!!

I love you, Conall, more than life and eternity and everything that may lay in between

The Cover

Meh!!! This one could have been done better…not a fan of the colors used.

Overall View

About May McGoldrick

May McGoldrick
(a.k.a. Nikoo & Jim McGoldrick)

Two peas in a pod, a pair of halfwits, the Laurel and Hardy of romance fiction...Nikoo & Jim McGoldrick were married in St Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin 68 years ago before a worldwide television audience. After a honeymoon tour of their oil fields in Iran, they embarked on a writing career that has produced dozens of New York Times bestsellers, two Academy Award Winning film adaptations, and a Nobel Prize for Literature. After all this, fortune FINALLY smiled on them and they won the New Jersey Lottery. Taking their two sons, Nikoo and Jim spent a year backpacking through Africa and then seven years in Tibet, teaching the Dalai Lama the subtle intricacies of Scrabble. Upon returning to the States, these two storytellers wrote thirty adult and young adult novels, two of which were RITA finalists and three which were NJRW Golden Leaf winners. They have also written two nonfiction works. Nikoo picked up an engineering degree somewhere along the way, and Jim has a PhD in 16th Century British literature.

These two write under the pseudonyms of May McGoldrick, Jan Coffey, and Nicole Cody and they now reside in Watertown, Connecticut.

  • This story sounds like a historical I’d like! Especially with the “sight” added into the mix… very interesting!!! But you’re totally correct on the covers. Completely “meh”. I’ve got to say, though, their bio is absolutely outstanding (hahahahahaha)!!!!! Great review!!!

I haven’t read anything by this couple yet but I think that’s going to change soon. LOL. I love the set-up for this story, especially with it being a bit mystical. Nice review!

  • A magical realism element, a mystery, a romance, and the highlands? I’ll be right on it. 🙂

The wolf pup sounds cute, too.

  • I like the mystery and mystical tones. I agree while vibrant the covers are lacking.

  • Eva

Oh I love the combination you’ve described here with the romance, mystery and mystical! Great review!!

  • I quite like the covers for this series! It sounds like a good historical highland romance series and the addition of the wolf pup sounds interesting. The mystery and mythical elements sounds like a good addition!

  • Yeah, the cover is pretty meh but you make the rest sound good.
