My Review Updated

Summary

Elizabeth Walsingham has been in love with the highland laird Ian Monroe since she was fifteen years old but he has always rejected her affections. Elizabeth is determined to not let Ian effect her anymore. She plans on leaving for London and staying there and having a fresh start. Ian Monroe has always found himself frustrated with Elizabeth but her sisters even more so. Even though she used to follow him everywhere. But when Ian is to be an escort to Elizabeth during a session of court with the king of England, he starts to realize how much he has always cared for her. Elizabeth and Ian are at odds constantly, chemistry heats up between them and with some mysterious deaths cropping up at court, danger increases and Elizabeth and Ian are forced to face what they have been hiding from each other.

The Hero

Ian Munroe, is a proud highlander and leader of his clan. He despises everything English, and he finds the Walsingham sisters frustrating and annoying and they are from a family of English spies. Ian isn’t a reserved man, he is bold and daring and a powerful warrior. Ian is a character we have seen through this series and boy is a entertaining character and I loved seeing him as the main character of the story. He is the type of hero I love the most in seeing in this genre. He is brooding, stubborn, and grumpy!! He doesn’t like anything English and isn’t afraid to admit it. He cracked me up through the whole story and he does make the best swoon worthy hero in the end.

The Heroine

Elizabeth is a heroine you can stand by from beginning to end. I really liked that stands her ground with Ian. She is determined to make her own life and pave her way to happiness and isn’t going to let a stubborn Scot get in her way. She is the third of the sisters, and I liked how different she is from the others. She is just as strong, but not as bold as her two other sisters. She isn’t a spy or cunning or crafty at all, but is opinionated, strong willed and passionate about her own opinions. She is proud of her heritage, and isn’t afraid to put Ian or her two brothers in law in their place when its needed. She was full of surprises in this story and it was interesting seeing her shine in many moments.

Plot and Story Line

Kill or Be Kilted is the best book of the series that I have read so far. The previous book I had some struggles with, so I was a bit nervous about this one but bam did I fall back in love with this author pretty quickly. First off this was a very quick and fast paced read and I loved the ride that Roberts takes us on. Second is the time period—I adore this time period. Its the Stewart Era, which is one of the best periods to read in if you like those kilted Scots. I found this book so fascinating. The set up for the story, is that the family has to travel to London, since the Scottish Lairds have been recalled to pay homage to the King of England. And boy do these Scots complain—-I almost thought they were children with their bickering and bantering and not wanting to be around the “English” hehe It was quite entertaining to see these men be out of their element. And their comments considering their dislike for anything English was so funny and I cracked up so many times. Now this is where Elizabeth becomes a favorite of mine. She doesn’t tolerate it for very long. I liked that, she isn’t a door mat, she stands up to them especially Ian. Boy do these two go back and forth between liking each other and not liking one another. Then we have a murder plot which really added some intensity and intrigue to the story that felt just perfect for this story. The chemistry between these two is what made this book rock solid. Honestly, these two are fiery hot and so many moments to swoon to. The romance is written in just the right way and with the court setting here, everything just fell into place with this one. Highly recommend!!

Ye’re the bright love of my heart

The Cover

SEX!! HOT!!! MOUTHERWATERING GOOD!! First off all that gleaming muscles….I just want to gobble him up. Second the HAIR!! I LOVE it. You don’t see long hair too often anymore on covers and was the right touch. And is a man in a kilt could be more gorgeous??!!

I loved Ian & Elizabeth too! I must agree that they were a great combo. And paired with the subplot of intrigue, this was a terrific read. 🙂

Great review! I’m glad that this is the best of the series for you — nothing worse than a series getting worse as you read. I haven’t read a Highlands historical in awhile so I may give this a try!

  • Woohoo! I’m glad you enjoyed this one. I thought it was so funny seeing the Lairds and their English aversions. lol
